Is anyone sold on RJ Barrett?

He's the next Wiggins. He's a tweener who can't shoot efficiently, won't be able to finish efficiently at the rim because he lacks touch and skill, and his defense is whatever. He's just a really good athlete with decent ball-handling.. what does he actually excel at?

He's just not good enough at anything to warrant the hype :confusedshrug:

Shoots like 30% from 3 at the collegiate level and a lot of them are wide open...

Great athlete overall... gonna have some sick dunk highlights.. but that's about it.. he's the next Wiggins

Word, you may be right about his personality but I'm not sold on his skillset at the next level.

Just seems too inconsistent as
a shooter/finisher and his footwork and creativity aren't there


I think he'll be wildly inconsistent like Wiggins, obviously they're 2 different players and I think RJ has a higher floor but still. Not sold on him in the NBA unless he somehow improves his skillset drastically
Had a convo with a buddy who feels exactly like you do literally yesterday. And you’re not wrong.

But I’ve watched probably 15 duke games this year and he’s just impressed me. Has a stupid nice touch with the left hand. Like...unstoppable. Finishes through contact, around people, doesn’t matter.

He gets overshadowed next to Zion but dude was scoring like 27 a game when Zion was out. And he always seems to have his nose in all of the big plays.

As a 19-year-old I really like his size, athleticism, and intangibles, most importantly.

I think he’ll become smarter about how he attacks because that’s his downside right now but the talent and mindset is there.

I want he and Jaxson Hayes on the Hawks. Would fill us out perfectly.

I see a taller Jimmy Butler with RJ.

If you watch the final tip attempt from UCF which barely missed Barrett is just sitting there and spacing out and not boxing out when that guy came flying in. He's lucky as hell that last tip attempt barely rolled out.

Wiggins is faster and jumps higher. RJ actually I bet will be stronger. RJ's body build reminds me of Demar Derozen with skills like Kansas Paul Pierce herky jerky style...pull up jumpers.... can finish through body contact.

Will he be a super star? Hard to tell. No one thought James Harden would be a super star scorer at this level. RJ's too young.

I don't think he'll be a bust at all. But I'm not sure how high he can climb. RJ's got the attitude and cockiness to be a team's leader, but I'm not sure he yet has the skill to back it up. He'll need to improve his shot selection and ability to have much of a chance.

He's a good ballhandler and has good passing skills when he wants to. Too often he's guilty of tunnel vision and is a black hole on offense.

He's got a lot of potential. He's not a bad draft pick by any means, even if the goes in the first 5 picks.

Don't see the comparison. Parker is like poor mans melo/pierce. Big stocky forward.

Barrett will not have conditioning issues like those guys had. He's more built like Derozan with poor man James Harden type offensive moves. The guy eurosteps and avoids charges so good. 3 ball will improve.
