View Full Version : The media needs to stop moving the goalposts for MVP picks

for years all we heard was "Lebron could be the MVP every season because take him off the teams and they're trash" but instead we give it to the best player on the best team

now we're saying Harden needs to be MVP because of the same reason yet Giannis is by far the best player on the best team (record wise) in the NBA and has elevated his play so much, but now we're not going that route?

so then should we retroactively give Lebron another like 10 MVP awards? Stick to a narrative FFS.

It's always been that way, there's also voter fatigue

Westbrook won it while they were the 6th seed or something. The awards make no sense. The rule book makes no sense. The NBA makes no damn sense. I hope the whole damn thing goes under.

Does MVP or any award ever even matter anymore? I mean, the whole thing is ruined by that cringy, shitty award show somewhere in July, when no one gives a f about the NBA anymore.

This. Those MVPs give the same vibe as those 1st rd exit MVPs like Dirk's. It's way more interesting if the newly crowned MVP is still in the hunt for a chip.

Giannis or Harden deserve it.

This.

Either move the award show to right after the end of the regular season or get rid of it entirely and go back to giving out MVP in the middle of the playoffs. No one cares about that sh1t anymore in late June.

Does anybody like the MVP award show :oldlol: Handing out an award 3 months after the season ends is as meaningless as it gets

Pretty much every single year it goes to the best player on a team that is a #1 or #2 seed

It isn't too much of a surprise...

Very rarely does the MVP winner criteria deviate from this construct.

lik ken griffen (empty stat baseball player , your stats are empty as well)

Giannis wins 2018/19 with best team in the league.

MVP is a trash ass award that means relatively nothing other than the fact that you're one of the best players in any given year. That's literally it.

Bucks Rockets tonight right? If one team wins with the opposing star choking, it could decide the whole thing. Harden is slightly favorite for now.

i don't think a baseball player can have empty stats. they all bat one at a time. theres no way to force stats

and the game is so heavily dependent on pitching so even supposedly the best player ever ( barry bonds ) can go ringless even with all the roids and stats in the world in his favor

It still annoys me that Silver changed the old format. The MVP should be given at the start of the second round so the home crowd can give him a standing O. Instead they it cheapened by given the award out on some b-list show in the middle of the damn summer.
