kobe made shaq

what was he before kobe broke out.. what was shaq after he left kobe

his only success was getting swept by hakeem and winning in 2006 while averaging 13ppg in the finals, riding the bench in the 4th quarter cause of his poor free throw shooting

shaq needed kobe to get over the teams that matched up with him physically. he could only dominate scrub centers

shaq is the biggest fraud of all time after lebron tbh... if he was on kobes level he would have won with a gasol level wingman ... and hes had countless better than that

but he kept choking year after year after year

because hes not respected like kobe. and kobe showed jordan respect and said the right things for 20 years

and he had the guts to say it in front of strangers and a massive crowd. lebron didn't

you can't say shit like that without the possibility of an opposition. its cowardly

plus kobe tried avoiding the question at first and only did it to avoid eating cow tongue. he was put on the spot. lebron put himself on the spot in a controlled setting

Lost in these funny posts is this sad one.
Shaq, who'd been to the finals already in '95 when Kobe was in high school. Shaq, who I remember got one of the largest $$$ at the time in the spring of 96 when he got the 100+ million dollar deal to go to LA.
Shaq, the MDE and 2000 NBA MVP, and 3x NBA Finals MVP and clearly the best player of the 2004 FInals.

But..."Kobe made Shaq". Kobe, the guy getting outscored by Austin Croshere in the 2000 finals and the chucker who shot LA out of the 2004 Finals, snitched on Shaq during his "rape interview".

Highly doubt you were alive / and adult in the early 90's, but Shaq was everywhere before Kobe showed up.

Kobe knows MJ is the GOAT, but he also knows he's better than LBJ.
Kobe modeled his entire game after Jordan - the way he talked, walked, jumping up on the sideline table, everything. He just fell short, which is ok.

I break the Big 5 perimeter icons down like this:

MJ - Flat out the best peak-prime and GOAT wise. Nothing more to say.

Bron - The best all around player ever when u combine positional versatility and numbers as a package.

Kobe- The most skilled player ever when u combine scoring skillset, handles, defense, and passing as a package.

Magic - The best floor general ever. Made his teammates better offensively than any player ever.

Bird - The best player ever pure fundamentals wise. NO PLAYER was as dominant strictly off fundamentals than Bird. 24pts-10 boards-6 dimes as a career statline is beast shit. So fundamentally sound he wasn't really score first or pass first. BUT was dominant at both facets!

But I TRULY believe Kobe thinks AT MINIMUM he's the most skilled player ever. But when looking at his GOAT status, key differences between him and other four that hurt him a bit are:

- Wasn't as efficient a scorer as the other four. Those guys always shot 50% from the field it seemed. While Kobe NEVER shot 50% from the field.

- Didn't make his teammates better on the level of the other four

- Didn't revolutionize his position like the other four. The other four TOTALLY reshaped their positions. Kobe was very similar to MJ. But MJ broke the mold. Even though Kobe did add shit SKILL SET wise to the MJ template for sure!

So even though Kobe has a top 5 GOAT type of resume with all the points, rings, etc. MOST don't rank him that high for those reasons. But if somebody DID rank him top 5 GOAT, won't argue too hard about it either!

So on paper the deal was finalized about a week prior to one another in mid 1996.

Kobe was 17 until August 1996. Kobe's parents had to SIGN the deal as minors cannot enter into legal contracts. So no, KOBE didn't sign any deal prior to Shaq. The Kobe deal was a tiny 3.5 million for 3 years (compared to the Diesel)

Shaq's deal was done for 100+ million and was signed by him before Kobe. Also Kobe came off the bench in the first game with 0 points; Shaq started. So if you want to get pedantic Shaq played for the Lakers first, and the guy LA got rid of to get Shaq (Divac) is the only reason they were able to get "something for very little" with Divac as Divac had threatened to retire at that point. Or do you forget this?

So who followed who to LA? You are actually going to compare the "Zion" type player in 1996 (hype wise) vs. another 6'7" guard (that wasn't very good in the NBA if you're being intellectually honest with yourself.

I can safely guarantee the Shaq deal was about 30000x more of a priority for the Buss family than this high school player. If you disagree you're a f-tard.

I was almost 23 when this happened. Every news outlet had round the clock coverage about Shaq's decision to leave Orlando. For the Iron Fist 'tard:

1996 NBA draft

Prior to the 1996 NBA draft (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1996_NBA_draft), Bryant had worked out in Los Angeles, where he scrimmaged against former Lakers players Larry Drew (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Larry_Drew) and Michael Cooper (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Cooper) and, according to then-Laker manager Jerry West (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerry_West), "marched over these people".[30] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kobe_Bryant#cite_note-31) The Lakers were looking to trade their starting center (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Center_(basketball)) Vlade Divac (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vlade_Divac) for a player's draft rights in order to free up salary cap (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NBA_salary_cap) space to make an offer to free agent center Shaquille O'Neal (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shaquille_O%27Neal). Bill Branch, the Hornets' head scout at the time, said that the Hornets agreed to trade their draft selection at #13 to the Lakers the day before the draft. Prior to the trade agreement, the Hornets never considered drafting Bryant. During the draft, the Lakers told the Hornets whom to select minutes before the pick was made.[31] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kobe_Bryant#cite_note-32) Bryant was the first guard ever drafted directly out of high school.
After the draft, the trade was put in jeopardy when Divac threatened to retire rather than be traded from Los Angeles. However, on June 30, Divac relented on his threat and the trade was made final on July 9, 1996, when the league's off-season moratorium (https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/moratorium) ended.[32] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kobe_Bryant#cite_note-33) Since Bryant was still 17 at the time, his parents had to cosign his contract with the Lakers until he was able to sign his own when he turned 18 before the season began.[33] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kobe_Bryant#cite_note-complex.com-34) Bryant signed a three-year rookie contract totalling $3.5 million.[34] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kobe_Bryant#cite_note-35)

So to summarize for you Iron "Fist" - LA got rid of a player to make way for Shaq. Because of that Kobe was allowed to get traded to LA. Shaq didn't follow anyone to Los Angeles - and you can't be so obtuse to think he would "follow" a high school bench warming kid.

Think before you post. LOL @ "Followed Kobe the minor who can't sign his own contract" to LA. I've heard it all folks. Shame these 14 year olds may believe this "twist" on the story - I'm here to set the record straight.
And yet, the Lakers traded for Kobe first, and then kept him on the team after trading away the fat ass.

Be mad. June comes before July.

Kobe's parents signed him to the Lakers first by 3 weeks, yes.

This =/ (does not equal) "Shaq followed Kobe to the Lakers".
Words mean things.:facepalm

Let's do a scenario where a 1 year college kid gets signed with the Knicks for 2019-2020. In the draft this summer, Zion goes to the Knicks. Paperwork gets signed a week later for Zion.

You would sit here with a straight face and say "Zion followed XX rookie" to the Knicks? I know you wouldn't. That's called being intellectually dishonest. You know it and I know it. Sorry you weren't breathing in 1996, but the hype around Shaq was unreal. No one talked about Kobe except people in Lower Marion.

Of course, one of the 3-5 best players in the league made his free agency decision based off where a non top 10 draft pick ended up
But you have said that same non top 10 draft pick forced a trade to the Lakers.

Too bad those threads were deleted.

He should've been humble.

"I shouldn't be compared to those guys. It's an honor. But I'm not on their level. I, quite frankly, was kinda bad. It's actually pathetic. I'm pathetic. I'm sorry. Please kill me now."

1. i don't think kobe has any doubt he believes hes better than jordan and lebron for the very same reasons i believe he is. he knows hes more skills, polished, fundamental, can do more with less talent around him and less phyiscal advantages. he knows he would beat either guy 1 on 1

2. i didn't know black people could have privilege. i agree they can but i didn't know their community accepted this reality

The same question directed at any of those 3 was going to result in each guy putting himself first, then ranking the others. The person asking the question knew exactly what kind of buzz would come of it, no matter the reply.

No it's not and you deep inside no it isn't. Kobe vs LeBron or mj would be close games and series regardless of who would win. I really don't know who's better out of the three. No one does because they never really played against each other in there primes. Kobe definitely belongs in the convo though and should definitely think he's better.

Shaq came to LA because they committed to being competitive and he could increase his brand even further. Orlando is a small market team.

That Lakers team had ballers in Nick van exel and Eddie Jones. A big reason why Kobe couldn't play those first 2 years.

Kobe said what you should expect him to say. Kinda funny to see his fans reactions to it after Lebron's statement a while back. Night and Day.
