View Full Version : When did Kobe get the nickname Black Mamba?

I feel like the first half of his career when he was #8 no one ever called him Black Mamba, then a little later on in his career it became his primary nickname. Also, did Kobe give himself this nickname? I've never read a story of anybody coming up with the nickname and giving it to Kobe.

Damn. So he didn't get the nickname Black Mamba until that late in his career? Comparatively Jordan was known as "Air" at least by 1984 and maybe earlier.

another nickname that he self proclaimed to himself lol

can't blame him though, we all know Kobe's awkward social behavior makes him unaware of common unwritten rules IE: 'others coin you a nickname' :lol
