I know Anthony Bennett is up there but this kid got nearly just as much hype as LeBron coming out of High School :biggums:

Wiggins is a bigger bust than Telfair, among others.

Laettner too.

Telfair was an undersized PG..no one expected him to be that great.

The guy was 6'0" tall at the absolute max and he did not posses the skills of an elite point guard. He was never going to be a superstar.

All I remember is he couldn't shoot. He was trash.

Marbury's cousin? Nah.

The fact that he was drafted 13th immediately takes him out of the running. He was a bust... But there's plenty who are more noteworthy.

The average NBA fan couldn't even tell you wtf he is.

Imagine how deadly that Pistons team would have been with Carmelo in his place. They would have been set.

The public opinion on Melo's career may be uniformly different right now.

You gotta be a top 4 pick to be a bust.

Pistons would've been filthy and maybe melo would've worked harder. Maybe maybe

Where are you getting this "nearly just as much hype as Lebron" from? A slam magazine cover? He wasn't even a top 10 pick.

:oldlol: Not even close. Guys like OJ Mayo and Eric Gordon probably received as much if not even more hype than Telfair.

And Eric Gordon has had a successful career. Injuries derailed his career early on, dipshit.

I wasn't degrading Eric Gordon in any way you ****ing imbecile, just very simply stating that there were players other than LeBron James who were more hyped than Sebastian Telfair.

Hard for a 13th pick to be a noteworthy bust when we have 2 #1 picks in the last few years who could barely get on the floor for one reason or another. Telfair played for 9-10 years. He was a real NBA player. Bennett can barely play in 3rd tier leagues.

Biggest busts were Kwame, Bennett, Oden and Lebron.

JohnnySic

Everyone says Bennett was a huge bust, but did anyone (other than Cavs front office, I guess) expect him to be great? I never even heard of him before he got drafted. A bust has to be someone who is universally expected to do great things and doesn't.

I mean, if you draft a guy off the street with the #1 pick and he sucks, does that make him a bust?

I agree with you. While Lebron has not had the same kind of flop as the others you mention, the amount of hype around him was unreal, even when he was in high school. He is the most hyped NBA player in history. He has not come close to living up to that hype. He had to form super teams to win and even then won very few. The LeCancer aspect makes him even worse.

Wiggins is a serviceable starter he shouldn't have gotten a max contract tho.

Laettner also a starter and even an all-star once. Not a bust.

Bennett and Thabett have no saving graces. Those are my top 2.

I knew Nelson would be better than Telfair but teams were obsessed with potential at that point and not who could actually play now.

Laettner was not a bust.

Overhyped coming out of college, but not a bust.

It's one and the same. For every bust there ever was (non-injury caused) you can try to say, 'oh, he was just overhyped in college or by the scouts.'

Laettner was a bust. He had an nba career, and he was serviceable, but he was a bust.

Herschel Walker was a bust. He ended up having a solid nfl career, but he was a bust.

Neither guy was overhyped in college. They both set trajectories for themselves in college that they didn't ascend to in the pros.

I don't think it's fair to consider someone like Oden a bust. He was plagued by injuries and spent about 6 years in the NBA. When he was healthy he had some great games.

To me a bust is someone who's perfectly healthy but didn't live up to expectations. Michael Beasley and Wiggins for example.

JohnnySic

LOL @ anyone who thinks Laettner was a bust. He averaged 17/8 his first 4 years, then he got injured and became a role player.

Laettner was an All-Star.

I think it it a stupid to put an All-Star in the conversation for biggest bust in NBA history.

3rd pick in the draft, lasted 2 years with averages of 3/2.4.

Having a solid professional career is not the same thing as a bust. You can add Reggie Bush to that list.

A an NFL bust would be Ryan Leaf.

How did it take this long for his name to be mentioned?

He clearly is the biggest bust in NBA history. A #1 overall pick who played less than 2000 minutes in the league.

4 career starts. 4.

How is a top 5 player all time a bust?

I don't know why I respond to someone who thinks Carmelo f*cking Anthony is better than LeBron James.

Ya.

Laettner had a fine career. In fact when I look on that draft no one picked after himm only went 7 picks after him, no one is noticeably better than Laettner. He wasn't a bust at all.

I agree, anyone who had legit skills and was derailed by injury shouldn't be classed as a bust, which is why I would say the Candyman Michael Olowokandi is more of a legit bust and was also a number 1 pick, he is on the Anthony Bennett scale of busts

Telfair was never ranked top after high school.

He had a lot of hype with the Adidas camp NY connection and being Marbury cousin but by the time HS was done... he was easily behind elite players.

Should have went to college but he was good enough to stick in the league and show he was NBA caliber even as just a roleplayer. Louisville would have been great for him for a year
