Magic Johnson is conducting an impromptu press conference and just stepped down as Lakers president. He said he loves Jeanie Buss like a sister.

A lot of people say he's not a true grinder meaning not cut out for the amount of work it takes to be successful at his position.

He's Magic Johnson so he's got a lot going on. Let's see where this goes.

I was sure Magic was more of a figurehead, someone to give glitz, energy and tradition to the front office while Rob and the rest of his team made the moves and negotiations. Honestly if Magic was the brains behind the signing of Beasley, lance and rondo, and trading zubac...then he just ****ed over lebron and wasted a whole year of his life.

Seems rather odd he didn't tell Jeanie Buss and he specifically says he loves her like a sister. Maybe we'll never know if it was something behind closed doors, or if the LeBron thing didn't work out the way he wanted.

Maybe he sniffed that no one wants to come to L.A. while LeBron is there and it's too hard to deal with? I mean damn, if a all-time Laker great doesn't want to be there trying to lure free agents to sign who the f*ck as a free agent wants to be there and play the fall guy to LeBron?

Not to mention him trading Zubac to the Clippers for peanuts was by far the worst trade this season. Jerry West and the Clippers were reportedly laughing at the Lakers after the trade went down.

Laker fans shouldn't feel bad, but rejoiced that the cancer is gone. Obviously a great player and all, but keep this guy far away from making any decisions.

You have to choose what you want to do. Do you want to try to win now or be competitive down the long road probably? They chose to win now, went to the Finals and finally won one. I'll take that over maybe winning one for 7 years and maybe being competitive.

In my eyes I don't blame the Cavs FO for that. They were fresh off winning the Finals. They were over the salary cap way into the luxury tax. If you let those guys walk you can't sign anyone better anyway because as I said, they're over the cap. It's either eat the money which Gilbert has no issue doing for players or not sign them, they walk, potentially make someone else more competitive in the East and you get to sign people for the vets minimum.

However I do blame them for this Kevin Love contract. He's basically been injury in every season he's been here except for one since he came here. Just came off a injury riddled season and what do they do? They give him a 5 year deal when they should be rebuilding, and potentially make him unmovable.

Pretty obvious he simply didn't want to put in the level of dedication it takes to do this job. That was one of many issues. The other being what you were as a player couldn't be less relevant when it comes to evaluating talent and building a team. We saw Magic in the studios/commentary box as an analyst for a very long time and like 99.9% of players, he didn't come off particularly knowledgeable about the game.

I don't think anyone knows that for sure. He injured the ankle four times last season--including a harmless appearing "tweak" in March that ended up sidelining him for the rest of the season and the first round of the playoffs. Even if he returns for the beginning of the playoffs, the odds that he tweaks it again during the playoffs go up.

No doubt. I always chuckle at people, especially celebrities like Magic, being credited for being good businessmen just because they have money to invest. Into things like expanding the TGI Friday's franchise. A lot of good that does the world.

That's definitely not the kind of guy you want running your basketball operations.

Magic is still one of the few believing a smile from Hall of Famer (him) and the name "Lakers" is enough to lure free agents. He doesn't understand you can live a cool life in NOLA or Milwaukee and still have a huge exposure.

Can't believe it but Lakers season unfolded even worse than what i thought it would last year.

Anyway Jeannie, you want a man not afraid to try the craziest of deals, not fearing to talk to press and anyone in the league and create the best entertainment show this side of the world: I'm here (I can give BBB Management to LiAngelo as he won't sniff NBA courts anyway)

2012-13 Prediction: 56-26 (.683)

Just when it seemed like the Los Angeles Lakers were no longer true contenders, the team shocked the world by pulling a sign-and-trade for Steve Nash and finally acquiring the dynamic point guard the team has never had in the Kobe Bryant era.

That was BEFORE Dwight came lmaaaaao

2nd Seed. Los Angeles Lakers

Projected starters: Steve Nash, Kobe Bryant, Metta World Peace, Pau Gasol, Dwight Howard.

The Lakers arguably had the best offseason of any team this year and may be the favorites to win the NBA championship.

Western Conference Standings

1. Los Angeles Lakers (60-22)

I's amazing to me how powerful Lebron is in the eyes of his haters. Apparently he's not only controlling the coach, but so powerful that he affects the president of the team as well. Personally I think that narrative is BS, Lebron is not as powerful as people pretend he is.

To me it sounds like this was a power struggle between the owner, president and GM.

Lakers coaching staff fully expected to be fired in hours after the final game of the season. They had believed they were gone for months. Now? Magic quits in public, saying he's too scared to tell Jeanie Buss face-to-face. What an embarrassing episode for a historic franchise.

Based on rewatching Magic's announcement, seems to me he wanted to fire Luke literally after the final game, and Jeannie pulled rank.

Next year is gonna be a trainwreck too. Nobody of consequence is joining this team with the shitstorm flying around that organization. Even if they get AD, him and Lebron and the rest of that roster ( whoever's left) won't be enough.

When the team play good, it is Lebron's credit.
When the team play bad, it is Walton's fault.

Problem is Lebron doesn't really need a coach. A coach, to Lebron, is just the middle man to him winning a championship. Coaches have value, but when you're Lebron James that value is very minimal.

Magic flipped out and went off on Walton after the Lakers started 2-5. That's pathetic on Magic's part.

You have to remember, Walton was hired mainly due to his 37-4 start (or whatever it was) while subbing for Steve Kerr at Golden St. He has no head coaching accolades to speak of.

So here's what I gather. Magic quit abruptly because:

1) He didn't have the heart to fire Walton after the final game.
2) He didn't like the league fining him for every comment he made about other teams star players.
3) He didn't have the heart to tell Jeanie in person.

In the short term, free agents may hesitate after the Trainwreck season that has been LeBron James and the Lakers. But in the long term, the Lakers will get better as a result. Magic just made some terrible basketball decisions.
