As one can see, Magic not about that life. Way too much bullshit Magic had to deal with being president of basketball operations for the Lakers.

Magic is rich. He doesn't need the money. He did it out of the love for the Lakers, Jerry Buss, etc. Once he saw all the bullshit he had to deal with and probably feeling underappreciated for his services, it was time to bounce at a moments notice.

Did he do a good job? Obviously, we don't have all the details or know all the strings that were attached to him and pulled from the Lakers front office. Who even knows if he had any control at all in the core decisions. Was he just a figure head to capture the imaginations and inspire top talent to come to L.A.? Who knows. Probably. In the end, Magic knew his time was up with the Lakers even if no one was going to tell him or show him the door. In her heart he probably knew Jeanie Buss wanted him to stay. However, in her mind, he knew she really wanted him to walk away.
