On ESPN's "First Take" Wednesday morning, Stephen A. Smith reported that Johnson wanted to fire Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka before he decided to step down.

"Magic Johnson obviously wanted to fire Luke Walton. She (Jeanie Buss) was going to let Magic Johnson do whatever he wanted to do with basketball operations as it pertains to the coach. Pelinka is an entirely different matter," Smith said, as transcribed by Jorge Alonso of Bro Bible. "He's there because of his relationship with Kobe. Magic inherited him like Magic inherited Luke Walton, wasn't necessarily the guy Magic wanted. I was told Magic Johnson walked into there and talked with them about wanting to get rid of not just Luke Walton but Rob Pelinka as well. And that's when Jeanie Buss got her back up."

Well, why didn't he just take them down with him right before he went.

And Rob Pelinka is like a snake-y Rob Lowe. You can just tell he's an asshole with his demeanor and looks.

You guys have seen Pelinka's resume yeah? Far more of an asset to the Lakers management team than Magic. Magic probably could have learned a lot from Rob, but he's used to 'that' lifestyle. Being an executive is hard work, Magic has a number of other business ventures so he's not really invested in the Lakers, just a former all time great that dipped his toe in front office management.

this is the sad pathetic truth

1. magic is a horrible team president

2. pelinka is a horrible GM

3. luke is a horrible coach

4. jeanie is a horrible owner

5. Lebron is a horrible leader

6. the lakers are a horrible franchise

Jerry West is the only chance Lakers will every get back to being good. It's sad they are turning into the Knicks.

So the whole thing is not about Luke.
Everybody agreed to fire him anyway...

IT was actually about Pelinka that made Magic resigned.

Magic was absent a lot of times apparently. Pelinka was supposedly making it a point to enter a room and ask "where's Magic". No surprise though. Magic was never going to be vested in this job 24/7.

Rob is Kobe's guy and Jeanie Buss is loyal to Kobe. Rumors has it Pelinka is dirty and alot of other teams do not dealing with him.

Remember that drama with Carlos Boozer with the Cavs. He promised he would re sign with Cavs, he lied and then signed with the Jazz...While Pelinka was his agent.

Pelinka was Kobe's agent during his playing career. So it should be pretty clear Kobe still has pull in the organization. Not sure yet if this is a good thing or a bad thing to be honest......

Pelinka is the drew rosenhaus of the NBA. Hes ruthless successful agent.

But the problem is being a GM means you gotta dial back and play your cards more. You can tell magic is not a big fan

So we believe the following happened as it's been reported in many places now:
https://brobible.com/sports/article/magic-johnson-rob-pelinka-jeanie-buss/

Magic went to Jeanie and said he wanted to get rid of Luke.
She said OK.
Magic then said he wanted to get rid of Pelinka and she said, no.

Next thing we know, Magic steps down. Now Luke's fired. Pelinka certainly seems heavily protected.

Wait what I thought pelinka was magic's guy
No. He never worked with Pelinka ever and was brought on with no experience in front office positions.

Jeanie loves Kobe. Pelinka was Kobe's agent. Shhhhhh...

You guys are dumb as hell.

Magic is a lot closer to Jeanie than almost anyone, including Kobe.

Magic AND Walton leaving?

It's LeBron..
