Pierce, Billups, Walker, Johnson :biggums: could they have challenged the Lakers?

It's not that simple. If they keep Billups and he develops correctly they probably don't get JJ and if he stayed with the Celtics JJ would have still been a good player but he couldn't have had the same impact. But on paper a great series from 2 of those guys would make them competitive with those guys. Hard to pick against prime Shaq though.

What if they got Duncan in 97, and kept Billups (while finding a way to get Pierce the next year)?

By 01, a lineup of Billups, Pierce, Duncan, and Walker would have had a good chance at the overrated Lakers if they were developed properly (and not impatiently by Rick Pitino).
