View Full Version : Larry Bird isn't even better then Vince Carter

Larry Bird in his prime was NOTHING more then a spot up shooter. He was a small forward who couldn't beat anybody off the dribble.
If he played today he'd be some insignificant player who stands in the corner just to shoot 3 pointers.
Not only that, he had no class and was on the dirtiest players in NBA history along with John Stockton.
But John Stockton was actually good and could still be effective today

A few years ago someone posted newspaper clippings of Larry Bird right before he entered the NBA. And back then people were saying that he will not be effective in the NBA because he wasn't athletic enough.

How does a "spot up shooter" average 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 ft attempts for his career?
:facepalm

You're out of your damn mind. Bird was way more than just a spot up shooter. He was a fantastic passer, a good rebounder, and a good defender as well. He's leagues above Vince in terms of how good he was.
Only thing prime Vince had over Larry is the athleticism

Vince does have longevity over Bird. Bird was an old rookie and was done at 35.

And there's no defending your argument..

Bird beat MJ 6 to 0 in the playoffs and since Mike is top 10 I have to give the edge to Bird

Jokic
Harden
Klay
That comparison makes no sense at all. The two play absolutely nothing alike.

It this a troll! LMAO!! If u take out defense, u can CERTAINLY make the case that Bird is the most skilled player ever! He's ARUGABLY the greatest shooting AND passing forward of all time in one package! From there, he was as good of a rebounder to play the SF position as well. And his overall scoring skillset had no holes either. MJ was for sure the better player. But Bird was the better shooter, better passer, and better rebounder. And was JUST as dominant an alpha dog scorer and assassin. If Bird didn't player on those deep ass Boston teams, he was CAPABLE of stealing a scoring title or two from MJ. It was always MJ's two way ability AND freak athletic ability that separated him from Bird. Because Bird was just as good OR better at everything else on the court. Vince isn't ANYWHERE CLOSE to Bird's level!!!

On the contrary, you could make the argument that Vince Carter wasn't even a basketball player when compared to Larry.

I'll assume this is satire. If not, this is proof that not everyone should have access to the internet. Or be allowed to walk around freely in society for that matter, because this is what insanity looks like otherwise.

http://www.reactiongifs.com/r/2013/02/incredulous.gif
only maybe steph curry has taken as many difficult threes in his career as kobe you dumb f*ck
the three pointer wasn't even a shot bird utilized much. kobe used it heavily from 2003 onward and took the most insane shots anyones ever seen. he pioneered the deep three and the contested three. kobe was doing curry shit before curry
he shot 34% till he tore his achilles. imagine if he only took wide open attempts
anyone else not named harden/lillard/steph/KD probably shoots in the low 20th percentile with the type of looks kobe had throughout his career
you absolute f*cking moron

Vince Carter only knows how to drive on one side, anytime he's going the other side, the player behind him suffers on simple rating

When u look at peak Vince, he was a VERY GOOD all around player. Very good passing and rebounding SG. Alpha level scorer to go with it. But Bird was LEGIT the best scoring, passing, and rebounding SF IN THE WORLD at the same time! Only guys like MJ, Bron, Big O and Magic dominate their perimeter positions like that. Vince was never that LEVEL of all around threat. So peak-prime wise, Vince was arguably a top 10 SG of all time. GOAT wise, I think he's outside of the top 10 GOAT SG's. But certainly top 15 GOAT SG caliber.
