The quarantine affects the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and California State University, Los Angeles (Cal State LA) and comes as the United States battles the highest number of measles cases since the country declared the virus eliminated in 2000.

The United States has confirmed 695 cases of measles, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said on Wednesday. Many of the case occurred in the states of New York and Washington.

California has confirmed 38 cases, state health officials have said.

At UCLA, 119 students and eight staff members who were exposed to measles at the campus earlier this month and could not provide proof of immunity were ordered quarantined on Wednesday, the university said in a statement.

Does this have anything to do with these people that refuse to get their family members vaccinated? :biggums:

Daniel Salmon, the director of the Institute of Vaccine Safety at Johns Hopkins University, told ABC News that the involvement of a foreign individual or an American who recently traveled to a foreign country is "typically" how measles outbreaks start in the U.S.

"Most of the time we don't have indigenous transition of measles" in the U.S., Salmon said. "We do right now, but once this outbreak is taken care of, we'll have no more measles in the U.S."

"Unfortunately there's lots of parts of the world that have lots of measles," Salmon

No it has to do with some foreign exchange student from a 3rd world country bringing their shit onto US soil.

If you are vaccinated against a certain disease, you are immune to it, even if you are swimming in its contagion.

So what? You still have to suffer through it and hospitalization costs money & resources. Vaccine for measles (MMR) costs $21 (https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/programs/vfc/awardees/vaccine-management/price-list/index.html).. Hospitalization would cost thousands per day for one single patient. It would also require hospital resources, nurses, doctors, medicines.

Although Arkansas has not had any confirmed measles cases so far this year, Smith said the state carefully analyzed one case in 2018 to determine how much it cost the health department. The result? A staggering $47,962.

While Smith, who also serves as co-chair of the infectious disease policy committee for the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials, emphasized that each case and outbreak is unique – and therefore the cost is not uniform for one case – he said close to $50,000 is “pretty consistent” across the U.S. (based on a report in the medical journal Vaccine). Extrapolating that number for the confirmed 695 individual cases in 22 states, the economic cost totals out somewhere close to $30 million.

$47,000 versus $21. Is there even an argument left?

For $47k, you can vaccinate 2,238 people to not get measles.

Big pharma gets more money from more sick patients and a bigger outbreak.. MUCH MORE money considering a single vaccine for MMR costs $21.. Antibiotics and hospitalization would net big pharma thousands per patient.

What is more? $21 to vaccinate a patient from measles OR $5,000 to $10,000 minimum to big pharma per measles patient & more measles spreading aka more patients? Come back when you have an answer. It requires basic algebra so I think you will be fine on your own.

Speaking of algebra you’re forgetting the number of people who don’t get the vaccine and also don’t pay for measles visits. Take myself for instance.

You’re also assuming that without these vaccines there would be billions of dollars in measles visits spent. You have no evidence to support such a claim.

you should look into preventable hospitalizations. billions are being spent on people mismanaging their HTN/diabetes/meds

there are people literally using an ambulance ride as a taxi. these people have no money for a taxi, so they use the ambulance instead. :lol

Vaccines are practically the biggest and most effective public health policy humanity has done in its existence, proved with massive objective data on results and safety.

Prove me wrong.
