He's right Bron doesn't have alot of moves but stopping him is easier said than done. Shawn Kemp gave him the business. Why couldn't LeBron?

If Rodman could guard Shaq I'm sure he would have little problem guarding LeBron

He was a GOAT tier defender, seriously, there wasn't a player in NBA history he could not and would not guard

So you're going to allow the stiff-membering 280 lbs 6'9'' freak of nature to be physical too? Rodman and Pippen would get their chests impaled by Lebron's dicc trying to stop him on drives.

lebron hates contact. he flops and bitches about it all the time. he doesn't mind push offs but people putting elbows in his ribs is when he falls apart.

LeBron would impale them with his *****, simultaneously. Making a human a shish kebob. Severely wounding them. He'd then do a 360 dunk which would provide sufficient G-forces to kill them. Put him to sleep? Sure. He could take a nap after that so I guess we're in agreement.

At what volume, could a scorer help balance the player leading his team in Fg% and assists with a PPG of 25+

Is the 2nd unit considered as team basketball? The teams with PF that can shoot the 3 left in the playoff are most likely the ones that don't want the game determined by iso match ups.

KD especially is mentally soft. He'd have been roughed up in the 90's and his shot would be effected.

Rodman and Pippen both had success in guarding similarly skilled tall, ball handling 3's in Mckey and Shrempf. Of course, neither of these players were quite as skilled shooters as Durant, but Durant's height advantage would not have been insurmountable.

What does that have to do with Rodman locking up LeBron?

Hakeem had arguably the GOAT footwork for a big. Rodman said LeBron has no moves, he's just big and it's true. Tell me, what moves does James have other than stiff arming his way to the hole or that unholy god awful crab dribble :oldlol:

2019 can't end soon enough, Bran Fam just collecting Ls everywhere. First, L39ron gets exposed and entirely misses the playoffs first year he moved to a legit conference. Then the guy Bran stans love talking about how he should've been the 96 FMVP disses their idol :lol Then they create a thread talking about how MJ was scared of Hakeem but turns out Hakeem says comparing LeBron to MJ is unfair to LeBron  Then Ray Ray, former teammate (who also played against LeBron and MJ) and who saved LeBron's legacy in 2013 says there isn't anything LeBron could do to be better than the GOAT.

You're so dumb, lol.

The three point line was shortened to open up the crowded lane without having to pussify the physicality of the NBA. MJ still didn't significantly take more three point attempts with the shortened three point line as in previous seasons. He took about 3 3pt attempts in 89, right in line with the shortened 3pt line era. If the 3pt line was shortened to benefit MJ, he didn't take advantage of it :confusedshrug:

They used to call him big man in Detroit. Because even though he was a "midget" at 6'7" he could guard and out rebound the big men.

LeBron would impale them with his *****, simultaneously. Making a human a shish kebob. Severely wounding them. He'd then do a 360 dunk which would provide sufficient G-forces to kill them. Put him to sleep? Sure. He could take a nap after that so I guess we're in agreement.

The rotated but he gave Shaq fits. He played Shaq better than Lonely did. You could see the frustration in Shaq's eyes whenever Rodman came in. Ended up resorting to whinging about officiating after came 3.

The Bulls held his Magic to 67 points and Shaq looked like a deer in headlights. With the sweep incoming, he got desperate and started crying about how physical Rodman was with him, defensively. "He grabs you. He holds you. It isn't basketball"

Was swept the next day and run to the Western Conference.

Older Rodman was better suited for defending bigger players for that same reason, though. Athletically speaking Pistons Rodman moved better laterally and would have been the better defender for him. He would have sagged off Lebron and dared him to shoot, mostly playing him for the drive. If his shot is on that game then you tip your hat and take the L.

Rules apply of course. He'd have a better shot under 90s defensive rules. Under todays rules he'd be about as successful as Kawhi would be.

Pretty much. 90s rules? He'd be just as physical as Lebron was, offensively.

Today's rules, he'd sag off 3-5 feet and cut off driving lanes. The difference is that he wouldn't need help, either.

and whats to stop old rodman from sagging off as well? Lebron is big... hes the same size as karl malone.

Even if you sag off Lebron, if youre too small, hes still getting a dunk or layup. young Rodman weighed like 225, lebron could bowl him.

Old rodman was at least 30 lbs heavier, stronger, still plenty quick, but could not be charged on. Also a better shit talker at that age.

Nothing. But if Lebron was hitting the J on a given night, Old Rodman is going to cover less ground than the younger one if he has to guard him closer. He was quick in 96 but not as much as he was in 91.

Also, you're underrating young Rodmans strength on account of weight. Lebron doesnt 'bowl over' Kawhi and their size/weight are comparable. He didn't bowl over Iggy in the 2015 finals. Got big numbers on low efficiency, but didnt physically overpower him.Young Rodman was plenty strong so you're overplaying your hand on that. If you want to go with old Rodman being better at playing the mind games, ok that's a fair point. He'd bang better with him at the rim or on the odd instance he decides to get into the post. Old and young Rodman would be better at defending different scenarios. Old Rodman may be better at playing current Lebron because he doesnt play at the same pace, but hes also not going to fall for Rodmans mind games. Not this version of Lebron. So the better defender for Lebron depends on some variables.

OrlandoMagicGuy

Also doesn't help that he has no go to moves (driving to the basket doesn't count) Jordan,Pippen, or Rodman guard or double team him would throw him off his game and force him to pass the ball to teammates and take a lot of jumpshots which he isn't very good at.It would be reminiscent to the 2015 finals but worse.

Good point. If Iggy and Kawhi shut him down imagine the 90s Bulls' defense. I am surprised he has been in the league this long and not refined his game. No go to move, no real post game, footwork, still a fairly shaky shooter, etc. His game hasn't evolved much from what it was from his Miami days.

As stupid as you are at least you seem to know the basic physics of why LeBron’s gonna be getting prostate exams and MVP votes at the same time.

There is no scenario where Rodman even has the foot speed for LeBron. Unless Rodman straps Duncan, Draymond, or KG in their primes onto his back and carries them on the court with him, you ain’t seeing no ****ing 13 or 15 finals performance just because Rodman is there. He would get his ass kicked and likely foul out. Rodman was damn near averaging a foul out per 36 his entire career. The over compensating it would take to contest LeBron’s drives would have his ass on the bench before the 4th Q.

Rodman was a great defender but he sounds like a get off my lawn guy here. Lebron would surely have a hard time against the Bulls but no way would he be easy to shut down with Wennington/Longley etc as the last line of defense.

Getting past MJ/Pip/Rodman would be tough though, especially under the old rules.

Lebron improved his jumper a lot over the years. You cant just shut him down by letting him shoot.

Kerr literally played him one on one for almost every possession.

At times they dared him to shoot the ball. The entire side of the court was him isolated and he still struggled vs Iggy and at times vs Curry.

Watching the gif again and you see Greg Pop not giving an ounce of a fvck if LeBron shot that either. I still can't believe he did that to Lebron in the finals.

Look, we can compile a list of players getting defended well on basically any player.

It's one thing to get a good defensive possession on someone, it's another to consistently get good defensive possessions.
But what jumped out on almost all of these clips is how Lebron reacted and how he was defended.

Most of these were isolation plays in unclogged lanes. Most of these weren't simply missed shots, he was 'forced' into those misses.

This tough guy myth that Bron would simply be too big too strong for every player and destroy past defenders is just that... a myth. A talking point that doesn't hold well. It was sad to see a video of talking heads ridicule Pat Bev stating he could stop Lebron even tho they just showed clips of Pat doing just that.

And there are tons of other plays in which he struggles when the lanes are clogged or he gets defended by smaller players.

Lebron at times can bully people when he has a running head start, lowers his shoulder and the lanes are wide open. But he isn't that big bully that some want you to believe the majority of the time.

He aint doing sh*t vs the teams from the 80s or 90s.

would kobe be better?
Better than Bron, easily.

He’d have more success because he was tougher and had a superior skill set.

Kobe’s biggest issue has always been shot selection, so his fg% would be lower.

OrlandoMagicGuy
05-01-2020, 10:34 AM
Kobe has a better chance in the 80s/90s than LeBron due to the fact that he's willing to work on his game and improve.LeBron would have no choice but to develop a jumpshot because if he just relies on driving to the basket he's going to get his head taken off.Remember what Metta World Peace did to James Harden with his elbow? That's what LeBron would have to deal with on a consistent basis.

andgar923
05-01-2020, 11:45 AM
There's also some huge glaring differences in the clips I posted as opposed to the 80s and 90s.

Lebron was rarely challenged to get position as the rules don't allow as much physical contact.
Lebron wasn't hand checked or bumped (often) so it was easier for him to get to his spots, get a rhythm, get started on his attack.
Lebron was almost always played one on one without a hard double. At times there was a man shadowing but that's easy to beat for someone like MJ.
Lebron was almost always playing with open lanes. Why he didn't take advantage of these lanes more often is beyond me. At times he did, at times he simply settled or passed.

The notion that Lebron would simply be punishing people with his size is a huge myth that needs to be stopped. He doesn't do it today, he def won't do it in the past.

Yeah. Played highschool ball in Atlanta. We did a LOT of tire drills and speed ladder drills.

Seems like Lebron skipped all agility workouts and did nothing but plyos...which turned out great for him, honestly.

I just know that, even at the HS level, if anyone on our team did some shit like that, they'd be benched for a quarter, at least.

The best player is supposed to take contested shots at the end of shot clocks but lebron defers them to lesser teammates

He isn't top 10

He's the most exploitable talent ever, and people have no idea how great his help has been - he teamed up with Kobe in 2011... And now AD.... And in between, he teamed up with the best 2nd option performance in Finals history

only lebron gets guys that were star #1 options to be 2nd and 3rd option... Again, he teamed up with Kobe

The league overall was pretty weak in 98 because of expansion and stars aging out. There were five teams in the league that had 20 or less wins that season. In the east only the Bulls, Pacers, and Heat were really any good. Hornets and Hawks won 50 games, but that's because they got to beat up on all the shitty teams.

Of course Pippen, Jordan, and Rodman all defending against Lebron would be overwhelming as that's a true all time Big 3.

A fun mental exercise would be to put Lebron onto the Jazz with Stockton and Malone, or onto the Super Sonics with Payton and Kemp. Now that would be a Finals to watch.
