There are plenty of people (like 80% of the league) 3-4 inches shorter than Bran so I don't see your point

By a good defender... It happens

Kobe blocked Lebron on 2 straight possessions... It happens against good defenders

But MJ was never locked up by bad or unathletic defenders, whereas lebron has a bunch:

Diaw held him to 16 on 39% thru 3 games and 23 on 43% thru 6, while Barea held him to 17 ppg in the 11' Finals.. overall, lebron has a dozen different series where he averaged 24 or less (shown in previous post), many on bad shooting

Defense in the '90s (and before) was much more physically enforced, particularly in the playoffs, which is considerably more difficult to score on. Although this is not particularly true of the latter half of the decade, it was still more physical than the current game. Light contact such as a hip-check results in a touch foul and free throws today and would not then. No-calls on interior defense then allowed the defense to have an intimidating nature against anyone playing in the paint.

[QUOTE]Who did you think was the toughest player to guard?

Bruce Bowen: Michael Jordan hands down because of his ability to think on the floor. Michael was a student of the game. He knew what you wanted to do and he knew how you

Nike's choreographed offenses were so predictable. It became cartoonish from 96 onwards :oldlol:

Dunno why Muggsy was acting out here. Maybe a contract dispute. Defenders were supposed to play along unless they were called upon to play an antagonistic role like Laimbeer or Rodman or Payton. Poor Muggsy never got the call up from Stern

Suggesting that they try harder on defense now than they did then is absolute nonsense.

No they're literally suggesting that defense is the same as back then except now these modern day alien players are so offensively advanced and complex that defense is irrelevant.

The defensive schemes might be a little more complicated, but not really, since there's not much to think about except for spacing. For example, before zone was made legal, players had to constantly keep in mind that they couldn't cheat off their defensive assignment or have three players clear of the lane on one side of the court while guarding the guy with the ball at the same time. Now they don't have to think about those extra constraints. The zone is harder for an offensive player to beat, but that doesn't mean the individual defensive players are putting in more physical effort and mental energy on defense than they did with man defense.

And then there's the fact that the dimensions of the court simply do not allow for that much of a difference in the spacing of the defense once a player enters the lane. With man defense, the defenses tended to collapse on the player with the ball, trapping them and forcing either contested shots or probable turnovers. As a previous thread was titled, "packed a la a jumbled nightclub".

As if Barea was guarding LeBron most of the possessions. Marion and Kidd were always the main defenders while Deshawn was the guy who would do it some too to start the game.

And the Mavs playing a zone helped a lot too.

But don't let facts get in the way of the childish thread. Carry on.

Not to mention the advanced mutated freak athletes from the future.

Nikola Jokic, Luka Doncic, Trae Young, Steph Curry, Kevin Love, Bogdonovic, Lou Williams, Middleton, Fournier, Galanari, McCollom, Aldridge, Barea, Landry Shamet anyone? BEAST. Don't forget about Devin Booker and Fred VanVleet....CARUSO!!!

I mean, 34 year old Gasol locks up Embiid every time they play. It's unbelievable the unprecedented freak athleticism in the league today in comparison with the milk men and plumbers of the past! :applause:
