You know...the guy who has the numbers and output but actually falls just short of that "great" legendary tier level of skill.

That's cause he should be nowhere near the top 10.

It’s hard to really know what it even means to be the Karl Malone of rap. He’s a good player that never won a championship. What exactly is the rap equivalent of not winning a championship?
Never having an album go triple platinum? I remember that was like the standard back in the day. If that’s the standard, I guess it’s fair to say nas. All the other guys that routinely get mention in the GOAT conversation have at least one album that went like 5x platinum or more.
2pac’s ‘All Eyez On Me’ did like 10x platinum, but that was back when they counted double albums as double, so it’s really like 5x. The Makaveli album went 5x and Me Against the World did either 3x or 4x.
Biggie’s ‘Life After Death’ did like 11x, but again, the double album thing.
Jay-z did 5x on his 3rd album.
Eminem did 4x, 5x and 7x on his first 3 albums.
50 Cent first album went 8x platinum.
Snoop’s first album went like 6x platinum.
DMX first 3 albums all went 3x platinum or better.
Ja Rule, who absolutely nobody considers a GOAT went 3x platinum on back to back albums.
Even Puff did 7x.

I think somebody that's real nice but never put out a classic album.
It's not Nas at all. Illmatic is top 5 best rap albums of all time. That made Nas a champ.

LL Cool J. He had some MVP caliber shit and put out 11 hit albums in a row(6 platinum 5 gold) but nobody but him ranks himself as a GOAT...even though he had an album named that almost 20 years ago. Hes...far as I know...the first person other than Ali to actually use the acronym GOAT. He was calling himself the GOAT when he had to explain what it meant because nobody understood.
LL had some hard songs....some great radio tracks...if you listen to Mr Smith you will be shocked how good it is end to end. Hes got album sales, the best longevity ever(He dropped his first and last gold albums 21 years apart) along with Snoop(15 years between hit albums) and Jay Z(also 20ish years).
Hes got all the boxes checked....but he still isnt in the conversation.

Maybe not to fans, but I constantly hear 90’s rappers say they view him as one of the top 3 or 4. I mean, dude was the first rapper signed to Def Jam. It’s absolutely impossible to say LL doesn’t have a catalog of classics.
Again, it’s hard to say when we don’t know what exactly it means to be the Karl Malone of rap. What’s the rap equivalent of not winning a championship? Never having a classic album? LL easily has at least 2.

In short it's someone with a long and prodigious body of work, but without a masterpiece album like Illmatic, Doggystyle etc.

DMX is like the john havlichek of rap. He gets no respect but is a straight GOAT.
as for this thread, i'd say 50 cent. he was good, but his numbers are better than his rapping ability.
