When you're at the 12 items or less aisle in the supermarket what the max item you can tolerate?
Exactly 12?
14?
More than 15+?
Unlimited if aisle is empty?

I think the “12 or less” line has a maximum of 17 items. They probably should’ve just called it the “17 or less” line instead of that confusing “12 or less” they went with.
Also, multiples of the same item count as one. So theoretically, you could have 10 blocks of cheese, 30 packs of gum, 15 milk jugs and 5 cases of Pepsi and that would only count as 4 items. Meaning you can have 13 more to count as “12 or less”.

It's 15 at my market. Depending on how busy it is you could take up to 20 and nobody would care.

Seeing how people are already disagreeing with you sounds like you're in the minority.

Being in the minority for anything in ISH is a good thing.

First of all, it's not an aisle. It's a checkout line. Or a register.
Aisles are where the food is located.
Secondly... going a few items over is not a big deal. Going 5+ items over is still not a big deal, depending on the situation. If it's early in the morning and there's 2 or 3 people in line at a regular register, and the 10 items or less line has nobody in it, you can go to the 10 items or less even with 15 or 20 items.
You need situational awareness. Not all situations are created equal.
If you get in a 10 items or less line with 20 items during rush hour, you're a ********** mother****er. If you do it when nobody is around, it's not a big deal.

You don't call it a checkout aisle where you're from? When an aisle opens up doesn't the cashier say "aisle number ___ is open"
I've always heard that.

its 12 if all you can quickly count visibly is 12 without having to move anything... then 1 extra is allowed if you're passing by and every other cash is full

12 items or less is more about speed. There's no hard rule. Even if someone only buy 10 items, they can be slow in their payment, or those items are big items that require extra time to process.

This. Whoever goes in with more than 12 is the scum of society, the low of the low. No surprise that even in a place like Walmart they struggle to follow directions. These are the kind of people that do time for domestic abuse, no surprise it's 90% of ISH.
