For the ill-informed, for 7 and a half seasons Carmelo wore #15 for Denver. I think it was kind of a given that Melo was going to get his jersey retired. However along comes Jokic who is currently wearing #15

Melo didn't really do anything un-achievable for Jokic in Denver

3x All Star games
All-Rookie team
1x WCF appearance
7x First Round exits

Jokic, currently

1x All Star game
All-Rookie team
1x possible WCF appearance

Denver have Jokic locked up for another 4 years, barring any significant injuries we are looking at more all star games, and likely more playoff runs.

I consider myself a Melo hater, so this would just be absolutely hilarious

For the historians, any other time this has happened? A good-great player looking like they'd get their jersey retired just for someone better to come along and get it retired instead

Good point! You think they'd retire Ray's?

They'll just do both names.

Nah, Ray probably wasn't a lock to get his number retired even if Giannis never existed, but it's Giannis' number for sure now.

Melo forced his way out, he burned a lot of bridges, if Jokic stays with the franchise it's his jersey which ends up on the rafters.
