View Full Version : Why is working at McDonalds seen as a negative?

Personally I've never worked there. Although I would like to know a little of their infrastructure as I would like to open up my own hospitality establishment soon.
But as far as it's reputation why is it seen as a negative? People I know who have supported themselves through university have worked there and came out of it to be the most well knowledge professionals I've ever came across. The best hires I've ever had came from fast food. Probably some of the best work ethics I've ever witnessed.
I have more respect for them than the basement dweller privileged brat who make fun of them.

Back in the day anyone could work at McDonald's, no skills, no resume needed. Atleast here it changed, but back then it was seen as a last resort job before you become homeless.

That's what I mean though. And they must have some top notch training because most employees I've had from there had amazing work ethics. I see McDonalds and a long term I'm more inclined to hire. At least while I was working in retail.

Minimum wage be killing jobs.

Isn't it like NBA scrubs?
We call em scrubs but clearly they're high earners with great basketball skills.
if you're in school, work in mcdonald's to help pay for tuition, and then graduate near the top of your class and move onto your career, there is no shame in that experience. in fact, you would be proud of busting your ass to get to where you are or where you're going.
but if you're like 35 or 40, fully functional, work in mcdonald's without even trying to improve your job skils, and all you do is smoke weed or play video games at home instead of doing things to change your position, you have failed in the game of life, and that is rightfully seen as a negative.

If some people can only work there and want to have kids, that is their prerogative unless you want to be like China and have a one kid or even no kid policy. Or better yet make it if you don’t make x amount of dollars you cannot have children and will be forceably sterilized. Once the program gets rolling we could perhaps replace sterilization with complete elimination.

I hate people that wanna trash fast food workers. It's a tough job and the pay sucks.
I used to work at a fast food place in high school. Customers routinely treat employees like utter dog sh*t. People wanna act like its ok to be disrespectful or insulting to employees just because they are trying to start somewhere. It's like ripping on the obese person at the gym. At least they are trying.

I worked at one during my junior and senior years of high school and during the summer after my freshman year of college. At the time, I think minimum wage was like $5.25 an hour in Mass, lol.
It was a great age to have a job like that. You learn very basic job skills: showing up on time, how to work with a team, how to communicate like a human being in a professional (used loosely) environment, etc. Believe it or not, I also learned to take pride in my work at that job. Also, scoring free Nuggets and McMuffins was pretty cool.
Then there were the fun parts. For starters, a ton of inter-coworker f*cking and sucking went on (not at the restaurant, you perverts). Even several of the swing managers (the hourly managers) were in on it. My first everything happened with some of fine ladies I worked with there and I'm eternally grateful for it.

It was the same for me when I worked at Taco Bell in high school. So many fine hunnies came thru there. Looking back on it, that's probably one of my favorite jobs I've had over the years. There was definitely some bullshit though; one time some dickhead customer threw a burrito at me while I was on the food line preparing tacos. Took me a minute to register what just happened, and by that time he left the store and took off. I was heated.

It has a negative connotation for a number of reasons.
- First of all, it is in the category of lowest-paying, least-skill-requiring jobs that can be obtained by anyone willing to work.
- Massive corporate recognition. The fact that you work at "McDonald's" makes you seem like more of a pawn than if you do essentially the same job at a little privately owned pizza joint. If you say "I make pizzas over at Julio's pizzeria" it somehow doesn't sound as pathetic as saying "I flip burgers at McDonald's".
- Finally, I think the name itself is just a little corny, and that somehow translates to the perception of the job. "McDonald's"... it just sounds so gay. If someone says "I work at Chik Fil A" it doesn't quite have the same ring to it.
This is, of course, all just about perception. In reality it is a reasonable job for a ton of people in varying circumstances.

When I was a sophomore in high school I used to hang out after school at the McDonalds across the street. There was this hot girl that worked behind the counter that I was obsessed with. I finally got the nerve one day to ask her when she got off work. She told me she had a break coming up and she'd come get me. She took me behind the dumpster which backed up to some woods and gave me my first bj. Oh the good ole days. :D

What kind of human trash thinks its ok to make fun of somebody working at mcdonalds?
That's a problem with american society today. People think they are too good or too special to work a job that doesn't suit them perfectly, so they wind up not working.
I respect somebody 1000x more that is underemployed than not employed. I really dislike people that are too proud to make honest money.

It makes you jaded and miserable towards people. I'm just saying the transitioning into the workforce makes better people. There's no shame in bettering yourself even if it's a job at McDonalds. If I am an easy target then why do you keep missing?
Also, do you really not know why working at mcdonalds is seen as a negative? :oldlol:
So you think that Bernie supporters are supposed to see working a shit job as a positive? :oldlol:
No shit people need to earn a living, that doesnt mean that working a shit job should be seen as a positive.
And I never said that McDonalds workers are beneath me, I said that OP is a ****ing idiot for not knowing why working McDonalds is seen as a negative
I didn't say it should be seen as a positive, now did I?

I wonder what's worse, a shit thread, or the person who get bothered by a shit thread :lol
Nanners is the poster boy for snowflakes
"I wonder whats worse, a shit meal, or a person who is bothered by a shit meal"
"I wonder whats worse, a shit book, or a person who is bothered by a shit story"
"I wonder whats worse, a shit politician, or a person who is bothered by a shit politician"
"I wonder whats worse, a shit movie, or a critic who is bothered by a shit movie"
Do you need more examples or are you able to see that obviously doing something shitty is far worse than a person who is bothered by a shitty thing.

Nanners is the guy on Facebook that attacks everyone's posts. Then goes and does a mass purge on his friends list because he he hates the quality of Facebook.
Nanner- " I went through my FB list and had to delete a bunch of people. If you can read this this means I respect you."

There's an old adage in my country that goes, "I lamented I had no shoes, until I saw the man who sold them."
Can you imagine, a grown man selling shoes for a living.

I bet when Nanners is not on ISH he goes through his DMs and all his messages read, "Is everything OK with you? You seem really depressed."
He responds back ,"People on FB disgust me"
He doesn't realize it's him, not them. :lol

you're romanticizing. I'm not denying that it's hard work - it's also low-level scrub shit.
again, nothing with working there but that better not be the end goal...
Hard work?

Nothing shameful about working at McDonalds
It's an easy way to insult people online
But IRL it doesn't matter where you currently are; only where you'll be 5-10 years from now.

Funny. I explained that I wasn't a Trump supporter. I wondered why you didn't acknowledge my response when you asked me. I guess that's what happens when you have Trump Derangement Syndrome.
