View Full Version : Just how Good is Frank Vogel?

He looked great in Indiana, a couple of ECF appearances and a couple of TOP best in DRTG there but the 2 year stint in Orlando bugs me a bit.
so Ok I get it the roster were not talented enough to win a lot of games, and yes I want to add that the core of Vucevic, Gordon, Fournier etc ,the year he was fired, missed about 24 games each. But this might be partly bec they were tanking at the end of the season.
But still, Vogel could have gathered his players to play hard and execute the great defensive schemes he created that will show in stats like DRTG. Before Frank under Skiles, they ranked 16th, first year with him, 22nd. The next year, 18th on defense rating. After he left, they IMPROVED to 8th BEST UNDER Steve Clifford. :o It would been so easy to excuse him if he coached a bunch of 19 yr olds his first year at Orlando, but except of Gordon who was 21, Fournier was 24, Vucevic was 26, Augustin was 29, these guys are still playing there with improved DRTG, plus Ibaka, 27, Biyombo, 27, Payton, 22.

Of the candidates he's the most exp. One of the better young coaches actually, a bit underrated if anything. Ideas like floating names of the likes of Juwan Howard as being potentially better-suited to the job tells you how clueless some of those TV personas are.

If Lebron shows respect toward him and listens to the dude he'll be great.
If he gives him the cold shoulder he'll be a disaster.
I think he's a good coach but if he gets hamstrung by his best player there is not much he can do.

In other words, Vogel's gone within 3 weeks of the season starting.

I wonder if he had anything to do with Indiana's fractured locker room. Seems like they imploded during that final season with him. If the Lakers need something out of a coach it's team building and morale boosting. The X and Os are not as important as long as you surround Lebron with elite shooters who can defend.

Doesn't really matter. Bran isn't going to listen to him. Jason Kidd is the head coach whether he has the title or not...and he's atrocious. :oldlol:

They imploded because Danny Granger was traded. He provided leadership.

Of everyone we interviewed, Vogel was the best choice imo. I didn't want fools like Lue coaching :confusedshrug:
