Tyreke Evans tested positive for "drugs of abuse." According to ESPN (when Chris Andersen was dismissed for this), "The drugs on that list are amphetamine and its analogs, which include methamphetamine; cocaine; LSD; opiates, including heroin, codeine and morphine; and PCP."
Yikes. Hope he gets some help soon. Pacers released a statement saying they'd reach out to support him which is good.

Testing positive for one of those drugs doesn't mean you have a problem. It's possible to just do drugs recreationally you know.
I hope he gets help and proceed to live a quality life. Also, I hope he has been wise with the money he has earned. I'm certain he'll probably play overseas.
Why are they drug testing in the offseason?

This is so dumb. Why does the league care what he puts in his own body if it's not performance-enhancing? No one would even know about this if he hadn't been suspended.

taking drug is illegal and against the law. if u wanna play in nba, there's something u gotta obey.
beside, one less crackhead is always better one more crackhead in the neighbourhood. stay away form the drug, do the right thing.

Drugs are fine. The fact that someone can do drugs and still play pro basketball just shows how much of a lie it is that they "ruin your life."
Drug prohibition - getting thrown in a rape cage for having the "wrong" substance - is what ruins lives.

^Mostly agreed.
Unless it was performance enhancing.
If someone can handle the hard drug, and still be productive and not require assistance when suffering thru their habit...
...Essentially if they are self-sufficient and not harming anyone else or sucking up tax money for their rent and EBT card.... do any drugs you want.
So in essence Tyreke smoking wet, or taking constant bumps or painkillers, should be his own damn business ..... as long as he ain't doing irrational bad sh!t to teammates or robbing his neighbors to buy more wet/pills/rocks/etc .... asd long as he can still play ball and is paying his taxes .....
....who is the NBA to say he can't play anymore?
So in most cases, it's not a question of the drug and it's effects on the indivudla, it should be a question of if the individual gets ruined enough on the drug, that they start ruining the days or lives of others .... is when the rape cage is befitting their dumb @ss.
Not in Tyreke's productive moderately successful career. Leave him alone.
Think about RB Ricky Williams getting his HOF career cut short for herb.

If you take drugs and your health spirals out of control, you basically **** over the team that potentially signed you on a long term contract.

Sad that it took him ten years to learn&adapt to the league backing up and forcing him left.

They wouldn’t stop flashing infographics showing rookies with 20-5-5 seasons during Tyreke’s rookie season. He was getting hyped big time but he didn’t really have much game. He bullied his way through that season and after teams got his number he never really was able to adjust.I think it was Fratello who said this regarding many players who never "develop" and just blame everyone else when they never become great.
It was unfair since it was in response to speaking about Ben Simmons this week:
"At every stage so far in his life, everything on the court came easy for Ben. His size, speed, and ball handling made dominating the game very easy. But at this level, he's finding it very challenging to do what he wants to do given his limitations." "We'll see if Ben can be committed to getting better, and improving his game to become a great player."
"The league is already way too full of guys who had it easy in high school, and college, who show no interest in even attempting to become great."

Tyreke was awful this year. One year after putting up the best statistical year of his career in Memphis, too. A drug problem would explain such a precipitous drop.

Plenty of lawyers and politicians can thrive in a high stress environment full of yola, pressure, high stakes. Dumb MF's taste the fake stratospheric confidence of yola once, and are a slave to it for life.
Try hard drugs at your own peril, dumb MF's ...

I was just saying that as far as some of the comments go. I tend to agree that some guys can play fine while on some kind of drugs, medications, whatever and some guys can't. My post was mainly speaking to the fact that Tyreke obviously can't. He played horribly. I get what your saying as far as he did look better towards the end of the season and in the playoffs and I wanted him to be good. And I would've been ok with them bringing him back and being optimistic about him improving.
But all season, he still showed he could get to the rim but couldn't finish AT ALL. Like, it was crazy. So he started shooting a ton of threes and now it makes sense. Because he could still get away with doing that but he now when I look back, it was obvious he was under the influence of something. Most Pacer fans chalked it up to him still not being in shape because of the knee injury and still fighting the injury itself but this explains everything. He always looked "high". I just assumed he was high on weed but its obviously much more serious than that.

he was great at shooting 3s with memphis however. Could be an outlier year however. He was never close to that good before that.

Yeah, I remember he shot I think over 40% from 3 that year with Memphis. When he got here, he shot the 3 terribly at first, then picked it up. But he was limited to around 20 mpg because he was always getting tired really quick. Again, we blamed it on recovering from the injury but now we see why. To his credit, he did give pretty good effort on defense.

oh yea i followed tyreke a little more than others. Unfortunately had him on my fantasy team. He was ok in the playoffs tbf when no one could score for you guys and seemed like he still had some shot creating ability but yea looked tired and just bad. I think there was also parts during the year he just wasnt really part of the main rotation playing only 15mpg (for good reason)

In addition to other arguments made here, we're talking about a billion + dollar industry that takes in big bucks on sponsorship and viewership from young fans. You can't have employees willingly taking illegal drugs without repercussion. It's not a good look. I know it's extreme, but let's say he overdoses and the league was aware of his usage... They would get burned to shreds...

Yeah, some Pacer fans were upset thinking he was taking away minutes from Holiday. But really he wasn't. Its the Matthews signing which really limited Holiday's minutes because Tyreke was going to get minutes anyway. I was ok with Matthews signing but I wasn't ok when I found out he would only sign if he was promised a starting job. Well obviously he won't be starting when Vic comes back so I assume he won't be here next year. Of course when you look at it now, he was the only choice to start at SG seeing has Tyreke wasn't prepared. I liked his enthusiasm but his play on the court was really sub par. I wouldn't mind giving Edmond Sumner a chance to play some backup 2. He has a lot of potential, just didn't get the minutes.
When you think about it, whether its him or somebody else, Tyreke is the TYPE of player that we needed off the bench. Someone who should be able to create his own shot or get shots for others and score when he needs to. He did get shots for others, he developed a great chemistry with Sabonis especially early in the season. Too bad McDermott couldn't hit anything though.

yea if he shot or finished better, that would've been a huge help. I think most teams want a bench guy who can pass and create and keep your team afloat while the starters are out. Off topic but what are you guys looking at for free agency this year. Look for a big name, re-sign everyone or look for a lot of replacements. Ik collison, bojan, and thaddeus are free agents this year, all starters

From Pritchards comments, it seems like he's going to try to resign Bojan which I'm good with. I like Bojan a lot and he's really improved. I'd like to keep Thad but I want him to come off the bench. Would much rather Sabonis starts next to Turner. But it doesn't feel like we're going to try really sign any big names. Like, it doesn't seem like we're going to go after Kemba but I would love if we did. I don't feel like DC will be back but I think Joseph will and I'm ok with that also. I like Joseph. He does a lot that just doesn't show up on the stat sheet but I just don't want him out there having create shots for others because thats just not what he does.
I'm still high on Sumner and TJ Leaf also. Even though he still didn't see a lot of minutes, I think TJ improved this year and played well when he got in the game, showing the ability to shoot the 3 and offensive rebound.
I like Holiday and he should definitely see more minutes next year. I think Thad has a player option which I'd expect him to opt in. Its kind've weird. We have such good chemistry, I don't want anything to mess it up by moving certain players to the bench, etc but I think Thad is a guy that would handle that change better than most. I'm fine with Nate. Wish he was better at making in game adjustments and calling timeouts at better times but he's a big part of the culture of playing hard and playing good defense so I'm find with keeping him also.
Edit - I'm also seeing a lot of talk about Julius Randle and I really like Randle also so I'd be happy with that.
