PG over jokic?

My picks.
I agree with everything, except CotY. Most projections had the Bucks being 4th or 5th at the highest in the East...much less the best team record wise in basketball. Bud all the way.

PG over jokic?

This is what I hate about reducing nba awards to a stupid award ceremony. They have

I mean you could sorta make a case for pg over jokic. I’m sure many fans can. But by taking jokic out of the nomination you effectively end that fun debate. Silly nonsense.

And most predictions had the Clippers having a really nice lottery pick. They won 48 games instead. You really can't go wrong with either.

MIP is siakam. He came out of nowhere. Fox improved but he has much more room for improvement. D’lo really didn’t get much better. He just lucked into an all star roster in a weak conference for guards.

PG13 was having a huge year before he got hurt. It is easy to forget now but he averaged 35/8 in feb.
When he came back his shoulder was still hurting and he was clearly struggling with it.

I'm obviously biased, and I expected it, but I just can't understand how George is above Jokic in the MVP conversation. OKC was supposed to be way better than they were. They finished as the 6th seed. They were the 3rd seed last year, so they regressed. Nuggets weren't even a consensus lock as a playoff team, were as injured as anybody missing at one point 3 starters, yet they finished 2nd overall. Jokic led the Nuggets in PPG, APG, RPG, SPG with no other All-Stars on the roster.
Not sure what more Jokic could have done. Giannis/Harden were no brainers over him, but his season was the definition of MVP caliber. Take a team nobody saw coming and have them finish top 2, lead them in most major stats, have no other All-Star help, and do something unique. What he did as a C in terms of passing hasn't been seen since Wilt.
Despite all that it's not even like George's stats are straight up better. 28/8/4 on .583% TS vs 20/11/8 on .589% TS. Most of the advanced stats lean Jokic's way.
Just seems like the more popular name.

I saw a document that showed who the voters picked for MVP and Giannis had the most points. Oh well, good for him. He had a great season.
Still impressive how Harden is going to finish top 2 in MVP voting 4 times out of the last 5 years.

but most improved is a hard one.
Its either Dlo or Siakam.

Yeah DLo is definitely deserving, he went from cement boot snitch to leading a team to the playoffs:cheers:

They had a better record than last year. Other teas improving doesnt mean you actually play worse yourself.
Not that it matters far as George/Jokic.

Siakam went from role player to really good role player
D'lo went from scrub to Star
The answer is simple for most improved

No Rose for MIP?

PG13 has had some bad luck in his career. That horrific ankle injury cost him a lot of time. This season he was legitimately the leagues best player for a significant stretch of the season.
Even though his numbers dropped after the injury he still averaged 28/8 with a TS of 58% for the season and is an elite defender.
He just had shoulder surgery and will probably miss training camp.

the injury ruined his chances but his name was thrown out there the first half of the year

I already know who's going to win, a google doc was created counting leaked ballots. Giannis should have won both MVP and DPOY but it is what it is i guess
This is the type of stuff that makes having an awards show after the season a total bust. Once the leak gets out, everyone already knows who won what. What's the point of even having the show?
Go back to giving the guys the awards before the game or on an off day. A lot easier to deal with.
But hey, the NBA needs their money.

He's definitely great in the regular season. Too bad it doesn't translate to real success when it matters in the playoffs, eh, mate?

D'lo went from starting point guard in the NBA to All-Star replacement player

Why is PG an MVP Candidate?
I'm sure he's more of a placeholder on the list than any viable candidate. Although he has no chance of outvoting Giannis and Harden in this two-horse race, he's still the next-leading vote-getter; that's enough to crack this list, which immutably slots three finalists—no matter how top-heavy the race actually is.
His candidacy here simply exists more by default than merit.

he shouldnt have got there by default either
Jokic and Dame shouldve finished higher. 5th shouldve been best case scenario for Playoff P
Probably, but third place is much easier for voters to skew when there's only a smattering of votes for it. With Giannis and Harden predominating the first- and second-place votes, the third-placer can hinge on a few contrarian voters and casually selected third-, fourth-, and fifth-place votes—neither of which stems from much rational thought.
It's why I take third place and onwards with a grain of salt, and it's why those placements are negligible since virtually no candidates beyond the runner-up (if even that) are actually enhancing their legacies with the race.

One is a All star that got his team to the playoffs
The other is a scrub role player who is nothing without Kawhi

People seriously have short memories. George was going off before hurting his shoulder.
Not only is he an All-NBA 1st team defender but his numbers were:
Dec - 30/9/4 with a TS of 63%
Jan - 30/8/4 TS 60%
Feb - 35/8/5 TS 62% (NBA player of the month)
He hurt his shoulder at the end of Feb. His shooting falls off a cliff and every forgets how well he was playing.
