View Full Version : Goat offensive repertiore series, Part I

.
MJ breaks his man's ankles before catching the ball, which forces a big to pick him up:

https://i.makeagif.com/media/5-18-2019/dyQEhZ.gif

^^^ Then he uses goat footwork to finish with one dribble on the other side of the rim

it's a "quick iso" that requires goat skill, not long dribbling/ball-stopping... fits with any teammate or system (so the team needs less "help")

A quick version of the same move shown below

https://i.makeagif.com/media/5-09-2019/VPKdjt.gif

^^^ Goat offense/plays of the week were just how MJ played (optimal footwork with goat athleticism)
.

That first gif is pure artistry.

Mike's up-and-under highlights were incredible. Some of my favorites are one from his rookie year against Phoenix, and one @ LAC back in 87. Both had absurd hangtime and were finished with his off-hand.

I hope Magic forcibly penetrates Jordan and forces you to watch.

Show me a player that breaks the defender's ankles BEFORE catching the ball, and then uses one dribble to finish on the weakside (from the strongside)

Show me a player with moves like that to isolate QUICKLY, thus not using dribbles/stopping ball..

this kind of quick offense on the catch fits with any teammate or system - can you imagine this juggernaut in the Warriors offense? Getting 35-45 without disrupting anything??. Yikes

There aren't any current stars doing the "quick iso" shown below:

None if today's players have the instinct/skill to shred the defender within seconds of catching the ball - they need to start extended live dribbling to beat their man, which stops the ball and results in a weaker team/brand of ball/product

hence why I said other 90s guys :oldlol: . A Hakeem or Penny gif would be nice from you.

Looks like all 5 defenders are in the paint, so it's hard to tell

Harden's team would've had better ball movement and beaten the Warriors if Harden had the skill to iso quickly like this:

How did MJ become such a creative finisher? It isn't just about his hang time or his hands (though they do play a factor) because Kyrie is an all-time great finisher because he knows how to play the glass.

But MJ finishes at the rim as if he knew beforehand how the defender(s) would react.

10th in what ranking?

Also eFG gives more prudence to 3 point field goals.

Yes it's a combination of 2s and 3s. He ranks 10th

No it's not bad considering the fact that he won 6 rings and averaged the most points of all time with no finals losses.

Top 10 scorer

Not bad for the Jordan Standard :confusedshrug:

Or do total points matter now?

I'm going off of averages, not totals. Jordan does not have the most playoff points, but he has the highest ppg average.

Read and react.

MJ was perhaps the best ever at doing this.

Bird was great but didn't have the same athleticism to capitalize like MJ did.

MJ made a career of beating double teams and defenders simply by reading the defence and reacting. The examples are endless to try to post.

Moving without the ball made him an even more dangerous player to guard. Again, perhaps the GOAT at off the ball.

It's a thing of beauty to watch. It's like watching the first several seasons of GoT. Kobe is season 5-7. Lebron is like watching Season 8.
