The NBA's ratings were down this season, so the league is definitely looking for ways to increase viewership. One of the biggest factors in ratings being down could be attributed to the fact that LeBron James left the Cleveland Cavaliers to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers.

I don't think that's the reason. Lebron is the biggest star in the NBA, and it just doesn't add up that the biggest star in the NBA going to such a big market, to the Lakers from Ohio, is going to cause a dip in the rating for the league as a whole.

It probably has more to do with the NBA crippling the ability for teams to play defense even more, before the season started. Because they assumed more points would equal more ratings.

People are already forgetting about that.

Critical thinking for the win Alex. Few things to consider here.

1) Lebron wouldn't increase anything going to La which already has one of the most healthy fan bases in sports. In short Lakers fans were already watching Lakers games before he was ever there.

2) Most of the east coast ratings were based on Lebron in a early time slot apparently since the nba is considering changing times because of his move?

3) as a central time zone guy myself it was easy to catch Lebron games regularly while it was a bit tougher to catch Kobe games as west coast games end past midnight here and that's a no no for working class fans. I'd say with confidence some lebron fans don't catch all of his Laker games because they are east coast based.
