Only injuries kept him from taking the throne.
That leaves Lebron only 2-3 years where you could argue him as best in league, basically when old Kobe was declining.
Before that Duncan was the best (2004 through 2007), Kobe was best (probably 2007 through 2010), then Kawhi was best (2016 and counting).
So maybe Lebron was best in 2012 and 2013, because Durant was too young yet and Kobe was too old.

They also went 17 and 5 without him this year
