Per ESPN article:
http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/26821790/lakers-20-failed-reboot-nba-crown-jewel
"There was one time when Kobe, who I worked with for 18 years, was going back to play in Madison Square Garden, and he had just seen 'The Dark Knight,'" Pelinka said. "Obviously, you guys saw that movie, and he's like, 'Hey, hook me up with dinner with Heath Ledger, because he got so locked into that role. I want to know how he mentally went there.' So, he had dinner with Heath, and he talked about how he locks in for a role.
"And Kobe used some of that in his game against the Knicks."
but wait a minute...
"The Dark Knight" was released in July 2008, six months after Ledger died. A source with direct knowledge said no such arrangement was made and no dinner ever took place.
He really thought no one would notice this? :biggums:
EDIT - him actually saying it and no one batting an eye...Guess The Rock knows how Hollywood works: You don't publicly call someone out on their BS.

Maybe he’s confused about the dates.
But I was at the filming of The Dark Knight here in Chicago where they filmed like 95% of the movie. I met Heath, Gary Oldman, Christian Bale, Cillian Murphy and Chris Nolan.
Filming started in March / April 2007 and lasted until the end of summer or early fall (start of the season) for the 2007-2008 campaign. The first teaser came out in July show casing sample of Heath’s audible performance. And the first trailer came out in December of 2007. Heath passed away in late January of 2008. Six months before the films release.
So either Pelinka is out and out lying. Given the dates and meeting Heath after seeing the whole movie, etc
Or he met Heath during filming or at the end of filming or briefly after that first trailer hit that lit the hype flames.

I know you don't judge a book by its cover, but he looks like a dude that is either a serial killer or abuses his secretary because he his power. Everything about him is that he looks like a slimy POS.

Is Pelinka talking about Kobe's game in Feb 2, 2009 where he scored 61 points?
If he's not lying, it's possible he heard this story from Kobe. But he got the details wrong. For example, maybe Kobe had dinner with someone who knew Heath and how he prepared for that role.

Is that how he hopes to lure free agents this summer?
"Don't worry, KD, if you sign with us, you'll meet dead people"
"Of course Kawhi, our organisationis the most influent in all the NBA. We even have ties in Hell. Want to meet your great-grandfather?"
"Ok Kyrie, we're in touch with a lots of guys who believe earth is flat. But don't talk about basketball with them, it didn't exist in their time"

Maybe Kobe caught a very early private screening, he was pretty much the most famous athlete at that time who played in LA. Still Pelinka should have cleared it up considering there is this widely known fact that Ledger died before the film even came out.
On the other hand, if this dude really just made that shit up thinking people wouldn't notice the hole in the story he is just plain retarded.

Rob Pelinka is basically Rob Lowe's character Benjamin from the movie Wayne's World manifesting itself into reality... in physical appearance, demeanor, persona, lies... basically the works.

Imagine Kobe making it up when Heath's dead at the time. Pelinka probably made up the Heath part just for the sake of telling a story & not knowing he died before the film came out.
