First I would say that Kobe def had the better career.. Kobe won MVP's while Manu didnt.. Individually Kobe was better as well. But as a team player I am beginning to believe that MANU was better ..

Take a look at the stats MANU put up vs the same DETROIT TEAM kobe was GARBAGE AGAINST.. Manu simply knew how to get good shots off vs a GREAT DEFENSE..

DOES THIS MAKE MANU BETTER? :confusedshrug:

Manu has a very high basketball IQ, while the other guy simply does not.

Manu wins over Kobe

Wait why are we talking about a player who has been long retired while we are in the midst of the 2019 NBA Finals?

Manu was known as the "Euro Kobe" when he entered the league. Mamba wins by default

It's actually short for European. It's a pretty popular shorthand people seem to use.

Bro, they changed the defensive rules... Kobe's own numbers were significantly better in 05.

You thought you had a gem with this thread, but here are the facts

ORTG
2004: 102.9
2005: 106.1

Top 5 scorers

2004: 28.0, 24.2, 24.2, 24.0, 22.9
2005: 30.0, 27.6, 27.2, 26.1, 26.0

Kobe himself went from 4th in ppg to 2nd without Phil the following year, despite playing through injuries and 3 different coaches.

Defenses kept getting better until rules were changed to make NBA more friendly to casuals.

manu took his team to victory having less talent around him than Kobe had the prior year.. THAT IS A FACT

It was Duncan's team. Manu was a 2nd option and on a much better team and playing under different rules.

2005 Duncan shits all over 2004 Shaq and Parker's better than Fisher/GP.

Spurs also had Bowen and Horry, who were amazing in the Finals (Horry saved the series).

Shaq was a liability defending the P&R and had 3 blocks in 5 Finals games, was constantly in foul trouble and god awful at the FT line.

Pistons played Shaq straight-up with Ben Wallace while Duncan was constantly seeing double teams.

LMAO!!! Manu was NEVER a superstar level player! He was FOR SURE an All Star type player. But there's A REASON why Manu came off the bench so much for his career. IF Pop had Kobe on that team instead of Manu, NO WAY does the Mamba come off the bench!!! And the Spurs would have won at least 2-3 more rings with Kobe in place of Manu on that team!

What made Manu special was the fact that NOT MANY SG's had his overall tool kit. I'm talking overall scoring skillset, handles, passing, defense, positional versatility, and athletic ability as a package. Only the SG's like an MJ, Kobe, Wade, etc. put it all together better in that sense. BUT Manu wasn't as DOMINANT as those guys!

TO be frank, I see why guys like Lou Williams and Jamal Crawford came off the bench. Because they were gifted BUT inefficient scorers. And their potential scoring MAX wasn't enough for coaches to overlook it. But in the case of Manu, it has to be due to durability issues. He was too gifted not to be a full time starter in the league. He only played at LEAST 30 MPG twice in his career!

Clearly not close.

I always thought Manu was a better defender though since Kobe was super overrated on that end.

Manu and Kobe.

33 combined years in the NBA

Picks two individual playoff series and uses that to settle who's the best.

ISH logic, ladies and gentlemen.

Manu plays for Argentina during summers, to add to that 'durability' issues.

If Manu played for other coaches besides Pop, many would have tried to start him. And rightfully so in a sense because IN GENERAL he is a starter caliber All Star level player. BUT the thing is Manu flames out much earlier. And has a short ass prime being that All Star level player. Pop knew how to get Manu to be a productive player FOR THE LONG TERM!

Frankly, ITS UNFAIR to even compare Manu to Kobe. The Mamba is a top 10 GOAT caliber icon. Who was the best player in the league at one point. Manu was NEVER even a superstar caliber player. Not even close! People gotta remember it's overall DOMINANCE that makes a superstar. It's not about being the more skilled or most versatile player all the time!
