At the beginning of the season Kyrie made a public commitment that come contract season he would stay with the Celtics. Do the Celtics want him to honor that pledge? Do Celtics fans?

As a Celtics fan, I want him to leave.

He ruined my team

I don't think he's a priority.

I personally don't want him back, but I'll respect him if he does come back because it shows that he has unfinished business to take care of.

Plus, he's never said he's not coming back. That's the media throwing out all these teams that are favorites to sign him.

crazy how most Celtics fans don't want prime Kyrie back

lol remember when this guy was considered a star?

he's more tarnished than John Wall

Seems like he didn't quite gel with the young guys from a camaraderie standpoint.

Boston's in a weird place right now in the east.

They were looked at as a potential dynasty from stock piling picks. Now those players are very solid but only one has all star potential (Tatum)

Philly has Elton Brand who's aggressive to win now
Toronto keeps Kawhi (IF) and they become a powerhouse for 2-3 years
Milwaukee is really young and not going anywhere

Still better than LeBron and the rightful 2016 NBA FMVP.

If he is not dedicated to the team, NO, just don't come back.

This was always the conundrum. Writing was on the wall last year when the team looked great without him and the young players flourished.

They should have moved him, just obvious now, but was something they really should have explored last summer....and that was clear before the utter disaster of a year this was.

Probably not a good idea to nearly max out an injury prone player like Kyrie that doesn't have good chemistry with the players or franchise. Just a thought...

Now, they should keep him if they are going to move everyone for Davis or something. Then you have to, but just to bring back to this squad? Nah, I can't see that making much sense. Won't be terrible, but ugh, if this is the Celtics team they have after all those moves...

Not even close to optimal.

It's been obvious to anyone paying attention for more than a couple of games that Kyrie has gaping holes in his game and that he's a selfish player and a complete nutjob of a person and that he was never going to be a good leader.

He has the talent to be the best player in the league and or an actual deserving MVP candidate... but his brain will always keep getting in the way. And nothing that he has ACTUALLY done for a full season puts him anywhere close to deserving to be in that conversation.

The Celtics will be a SIGNIFICANTLY better team next year if they let Kyrie walk for nothing and re-sign Rozier to a relatively team friendly deal. That's literally all they have to do... just let him go.

The Celtics are still the deepest team in the East by far and capable of playing the best team basketball and best team defense in the East if not the entire league.

Kyrie is not going to be happy anywhere he goes. Maybe he'll find happiness once he retires... maybe.

But for a guy that hates the media so much, he's even dumber than I thought if NYK & BKN are genuinely at the top of his free agency desires, lol.

People need to stop saying Celtics are a deep team, especially since Kyrie and Morris are likely gone.

Smart
Brown
Tatum
65% of Hayward
Horford
Baynes
Rozier (IF they bring him back...plus, he absolutely SUCKS)

That's all they have right now. That's it. They are deep at SF, that is it. So much of the view of the Celtics being a depth monster and powerhouse came from assuming that Brown and Tatum would both take big leaps. It seemed like a lock, but it didn't happen. And for some reason, public perception has taken waaaaayyyy too long to recalibrate itself to reality. Instead of what should be a sure-fire All-Star season next year from Tatum after (people assumed he'd get to) borderline status this year, he's gotta just try to get back to his rookie year playing style and shooting numbers.

Do people who stan Rozier realize he's a 39% career scorer?

Derek fisher esq

Edit: 38%, I gave him too much credit.

It is hard to judge players in suboptimal roles. So while it seems like Tatum and Brown didn't progress, I'm skeptical of saying that as fact given what we know about how players are impacted by players like Kyrie that don't fit well around him.

Again, just look at the Warriors. Green/Klay/Curry sacrifice a lot to play with KD as they are forced to take on suboptimal roles as individuals. They do it because it makes the team better, but they look much worse as players than they actually are when they have to incorporate KD. KD goes out and all of a sudden, like magic, specifically Green/Curry start playing like they did in 15 and 16. Basketball as a sport is just so much a sport that sees role and circumstance impact how well players play.

With the Celtics, I feel like a similar thing was going on...just without the actual winning and making the team better.

Obviously we'll get a good idea of what is what next year if Kyrie is gone.

The Celtics can pay him the most. So sign and trade him to Brooklyn for Russell, LeVert, and Crabbe. Kyrie goes home to NY; Celtics get 2 decent young players and Crabbe's big expirer. (assuming you can max and trade a guy, I dunno)

Then Brooklyn can add Durant, but that's a story for a different thread.

Don't the Nets have enough room for Kyrie and Durant? I could see Russell being moved, but LeVert...I highly doubt would be moved...especially if it is just to overpay Kyrie.

Ainge is going to offer him the max so yes the organization wants him back. His teammates may not all be for him but no one had spoken out publicly beyond Rozier saying that he himself doesn't want to br in Boston if he can't have a bigger role. As a fan my preference is that they keep him if for no other reason than that's a big asset to lose. If he is willing to sign them sign him and if it isn't working well you can trade him but losing him got nothing is bad business.

All of Ainge's precious assets netted him a grand total of absolutely nothing....Zilch!

If I was a legit Celtics fan, I would not want him. He's just a bad fit on this Celtics team.

As others have said, I would sign him for the max and try to trade him. He would fetch pieces that would make this Celtics team a legit contender.
