They often lie or avoid answering directly, and it's hard to find out unless if she is openly slutty. Keep in mind many girls flirt openly or in private conversations/text with guys including with even cousins/relatives their own age, so to find out how many guys she has slept with based on behavior alone is very difficult to gauge as well.

Only way to be certain is to ask directly and assume what she told you is the truth, but you still can't trust it. Her closest friends should have a good idea, but if they are good friends, they won't tell you. Usually though if she won't tell you or avoids the question, you have to assume it must be a high number. If you were her first or even third or fifth, she will proudly tell you so. If it's like something high like 15-20, she will be too embarrassed to tell you for fear of being judged.

Don't worry too much about it though. If she is good to you, treats you well and trusts you then let the past be. Don't even ask unless if she wants to discuss it for whatever reason (typically girls don't bring that up).
