Clearly the Raptors won this trade, Masai Was willing to make a risky trade and it's easily paid off even if Kawhi leaves. PG resigned with OKC, Kawhi might resign with Toronto, do you guys think this will be the norm moving forward?

The risk is too great. It won't usually turn out this well. I would rather do a "sign and trade" like the Cavs did when they traded Wiggins and Bennett for Kevin Love. Make sure you can hold on to the player for multiple years.

It was for DeRozan with three year contract, not exactly risky.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Leonard signs another short term contract with Toronto. He doesn’t seem like the type to chase supermax deals.

I say go for it every time. Do you realize how much of a hassle moving is? Even if you're paying people to move your stuff, or just buying new stuff. Moving is such a ****ing hassle.

It made sense for Toronto either way. Had it turned out they lose in the 1st or 2nd round, least they get DeRozan's massive contract off the books. Had this situation (Leonard wanting out) not happened, they probably would not of been able to trade him, except maybe the last year.
