I agree in the sense that the competition for top-5 GOAT is so stiff that it's critical for that level of player to "make hay while the sun shines" and convert finals appearances into wins. However, I think it's tough to say that winning a conference title can fail to be a resume enhancer.

Even MJ failed to win his conference title in more than half of his seasons. It's not a championship, but it's certainly not nothing.
