Durant doesn't need lift or explosion.

Even if his vertical is shit going forward, he is still 7 foot with a wet midrange and fadeaway. At absolute worst he will be a much better shooting LaMarcus Aldridge.

His position could be the same, as a small ball center.

Kobe had a ton of skill... his injury and loss of athleticism killed his game.

Durant will still be a great NBA player for the rest of his career, but the "best player in the world" conversation ended on Monday night for the rest of his life.

Agreed. Durant took over as the best player in the league since last season, and this season he has been the clear cut best in NBA. This injury will be a major setback for him, he probably won

Kobe...

Durant's standing reach is probably 10 inches higher than Kobe's, so losing elevation should hurt him much less.

Kobe was 34 going on 35 with 17 years into the league. Not only that, but he suffered two other unrelated season-ending injuries, we didn't really see Kobe even get his legs under him the first time he returned from his achilles tear so it's a stupid comparison.

Durant's 30 going on 31 with 12 seasons in the NBA and he has the height advantage Kobe didn't.

if durant stays an all-nba level player, I'll be pretty happy. Best in the world is just so unlikely

:facepalm

Kobe's situation is not nearly the same.

Durant is only 30, which is right around where you're still peak physically. It goes downhill fast after 30 though, so he still has a shot to recover well.

In addition, he can bulk up, play more center. LMA has no vertical, can barely dunk, and pretty easily gets 25ppg. Durant is much better than LMA on both sides of the court.

So yeah, probably he isn't gonna be the same, but for the bbal purists, if he can retool and be back at 75-80% then that is going to HELP how he is looked at.

Duncan managed to add to his resume because he changed his style of play, unlike Shaq who detracted from his resume, cause he never adjusted.

I think one really good thing is it happened to his right leg. I think most jumpers jump off their left foot on one leg jumps. It's that way for right handers anyway.

So he still has a good chance to be explosive.
