View Full Version : Anthony Davis was 3rd in PER last season

Lebron is 34 years old.

MJ was 34 years old in 1997-98.

If MJ was to team up with the 3rd in PER from the previous season that would be... Shaq.

PER = useless stat.

AD was 4th in WS/48 and 4th in BPM.

It's absolutely insane.

Sir Charles was 4th in WS/48 and BPM in 1996.

Lebron literally recruited a prime Charles Barkley.

Except with LeBron being 8th....isn’t it more like 96 Shaq teaming up with 96 Sabonis?

Since we just throw out basketball and go by per rankings I mean.

And 3 and 8 have played together in reality. It’s 92 Malone and 92 Stockton. Perhaps some other years too but that just stood out.

Truth. LeBron has already played with the 2nd and 4th per in the league and lost to Dirk and Jason Terry. This goes to show stats are not everything.

It happens, Lakers got embarrassed by a 51 win team in the WCF in 1986.

All teams lose. Losing to Hakeem and Sampson once while winning 5 titles in 9 years is acceptable. Getting eviscerated by Duncan by nearly 30 points and ending up ringless that year isnt exactly impressive.

No shame in losing to the Spurs, they were a dynasty. Lakers in '86 lost to a 51 win team in 5 games, a team full of coke heads.

Losing to Hakeem and Sampson while winning 5 titles in 9 years 》 stopping at 3 titles because you're not good enough to win more, and then having Duncan almost single handily dismantle your "duo" and best them by 30 at Staples, reducing Kobe to tears.

Lakers then proceeded to whoop Duncan's ass the next year, while Kareem after that ass whoopin to the Rockets was never a 20 ppg player ever again.

Yet, the Magic-Kareem duo was better right??

Lakers won two titles with Kareem averaging under 20 points. :oldlol:

Nah. Fisher proceeded to score the game 5 winning shot (shot clock started after he got the ball). Notbing to do with the duo.

And yes, winning 5 titles and reaching 9 finals 》winning 3 titles and not being good enough to reach more than 4 finals.

I dont think the Lebron Wade duo was that great. I'm not deluded. This kid wants to argue that the Shaq lakers had the best "duo" of all time. 3 titles (half or Jordan and Pippens 6 and 2 less than Magic and Kareem' 5) which consisted of Shaq constantly carrying a 40%fg finals scorer. Its....laughable.

Such a shame, the real duo from '87-'89 was Magic-Worthy. Kareem was an afterthought by then.

So basically, Magic-Kareem as a duo won the same amount of titles as Shaq-Kobe.

Magic is overrated anyway. No one thought he was better than Bird, not close.

Bird, Kareem and MJ, those are the guys that matter in the GOAT tier.

Wilt, Magic, Shaq are in the next tier as the supremely athletic and skilled, but lacking something.

Duncan, Russel, Kobe, Hakeem as the really, really great, but not mindblowing players.

Oscar, West, Malone and Malone, Lebron as the very good, but career loser players.

Nah. Kareem was great.
Kobe with his 15 ppg on 36%fg in the 2000 finals and his all NBA 3rd team certainly wasnt part of any "duo".

So if you're saying that Kareem wasn't a star then, then Kobe wasn't a star in 2000.

Davis was arguably the best player in the league the first half of the season, he was averaging 29/13/4 with 1.7 stls 2.6 blks in his first 41 games, before the Pelicans sat him out and started playing him like 20 minutes due to him forcing a trade to the Lakers.

Lakers just got themselves an MVP-level player. PER can be a very flawed stat to compare, especially across eras but OP does have a point, AD is definitely top 5 in the league and can be the best player with Lebron faciliating for him.

Now you're getting a little better but it's better to include others like RPM, RAPM, PIPM, etc...and the biggest thing is you have to look at them all in order to get a much better picture. Looking at just one stat is useless.

No doubt AD is among the best in the league, literally not arguing that at all, but using PER to make that argument is like saying you read and understand War & Peace because you read a 5 page summary.
