Everyone is talking about AD trade on July 6 leaving only $23m for Lakers.. So why can't Lakers sign a max player BEFORE July 6?? Say July 5.. Even with Lonzo/Ingram/Hart on roster, Lakers have max money. So why can't they sign like Kawhi or Butler or someone to max on July 5th then make trade official on July 6?

Free-agency begins June 29 I believe.

So how could the trade even go through on July 6? Whoever is drafted at 4 will not have been signed for 30 days if draft is June 20.. So per that quote, he can't be traded until July 20, no?

NBA rules re: salary cap, dates, when transactions can be done, etc is seriously the stupidest, most convoluted BS in all pro sports.

The talk BEFORE the AD trade was the Lakers could trade for AD AND sign a max player. Then when the AD trade happened, all these stipulations came out about signing a max player. So ya hella confusing for sure!! LOL
