No, it's very anticlimactic. Maybe I'm old fashioned but i liked the previous way of announcing the winners better. Guess the nba figures they can squeeze more ratings out of a season this way. Or was it just mimicking the NFL?

They literally wait until no one cares about the NBA to announce that lol. It's like the one week the NBA doesn't matter. Right before the draft too.

They need to announces these awards at the end of the first round like they used to do.

I miss the old days of guys getting an award then having the pressure to go out and validate it in the playoffs.

Im not gonna be watching it. It's not as exciting to hear the winners of each award AFTER the season has ended. It was much better when they were announced early in the playoffs

It's an unfathomably terrible idea. It already feels like the season's been over for a while, and all people care about now is free agency and the draft.

I literally haven't watched a single second of the last 2 awards ceremony, and I'll never watch any of them. They league is sadly mistaken if they think fans need to actually watch the award be announced live, instead of just finding out who won after it's over.

It was so much more exciting when they announced MVP during the playoffs, we could see if they could back up winning the award in the playoffs. Now, nobody gave a fck when Westbrook & Harden won it, and that will sadly be the state for every MVP until they change this terrible idea

Silver has honestly had many bad ideas (this, numerous rule changes, ads on jerseys, renaming the D-League after Gatorade, doing away with east vs west all star games but still making it so 12 have to be selected from each conference, and probably others I’ve forgotten) yet he doesn’t get called out for them nearly enough. IMO at least.

No. I don't like them waiting until June to give out the awards. I think it's meh. I prefer the old way of just announcing it throughout the playoffs.

I'll just read over the broad strokes on NBA.com later tonight.

No level of pushback from the fans will convince them to revert this, sadly. The NBA knows this ceremony is bathetic, but they couldn't care less about the ebb and flow of the awards' hype when more money is gainable by hosting a separate award show as opposed to lumping it together with the NBA Playoffs when the latter's viewership has increased every year without it.

It'll ultimately enhance the awardees' legacies the same regardless of when they're announced, but for the here and now? Potentially career-defining awards feel like little more than footnotes on the season.

I think it's time to consider the playoffs as a factor for these awards. I think it would add a lot more weight to the awards and up the stakes.
