Yeah. From my perspective this is a failed experiment. They just simply need to go back to announcing the winners via the media during the playoffs. Knowing the award winners during the playoffs actually makes the post season more interesting adding to the storylines. For instance, watching the MVP possibly face an opponent who feels he was robbed of the award adds great intrigue .

It was kind of a big deal at the end of the regular season when people were debating Giannis vs Harden, but now everyone seems to have moved on.

It makes the award feel vaccous being awarded after the season is over. The champion has been decided as well as the finals MVP. The all-NBA teams are out. Teams are now switching gear to making moves for next year. Who won regular season MVP isn't much of a conversation point now, especially when you consider that they didn't win the championship( obviously Kawhi isn't going to win MVP) so yeah, who cares at this point? :confusedshrug:

Stupid stuff. This is the NBA's way of trying to extend the season past its expiration. I doubt the players are into it either, since it cuts into their vacation time. The only "NBA award" that matters is MVP so creating additional fanfare for the sake of fanfare is just that...

Yeah, the story of the finals, the upcoming draft, and free agency easily overshadows who the MVP of last season will be. It's unfortunate that they've chosen this time frame, but I suspect they will revert to announcing the MVP during the playoffs next season. At this point, the award almost feels irrelevant, and that's a disservice to the eventually winner.

They should have it the last day of the regular season. They should have NBA representatives fly to the respective cities and present the awards to each winner at their last home game of the year.
