The excitement level surrounding the Utah Jazz has reached levels perhaps unknown to a certain generation of Jazz fans. That generation very much includes me, who just turned 27. That means I was just 5 years old when John Stockton hit that fateful shot to send Utah to its first NBA Finals back in 1997. I imagine the frenzy of interest around the team reached its all-time apex at that point, but I was too little then to remember it now.


'88 was the highpoint for me when they had the defending and eventual champs beat before giving it away. Of course they never built on that like they finally have this season.

Arguing about end of bench guys does not always mean you have a good team
I remember a bunch of slcDunk having the same conversation in the early 2010s, when the Jazz were grabbing guys like Jamal Tinsley, Randy Foye, and John Lucas III.

I’m not saying that the team’s in the same position now as they were back then, mostly due to coaching, but saying that end of the bench signings don’t matter as much because the front of the roster is good can come back and bite you.

Ideally stashed on the Stars. Brantley is the best overall but Oni can probably play a role sooner as a a 3 and D that can handle the ball and make some plays as well. Brantley will have to work on his shooting and the other guy is a gunner that has to show he can play another role besides scorer

Larsen is saying they will bring people in to compete with Howard so not fully guaranteed I guess. If Exum continues to suck please get rid of him though!

This would be an excellent low-risk, high-reward signing, and Howard looks like the kind of diamond-in-the-rough player that the Utah Jazz have made a habit of uncovering.

Some might argue Mitchell is already a star, but he has not been an All-Star. In fact, he shockingly wasn't even close last year, as he finished 12th among Western Conference guards.

We hear this every year and it hasn't been true since Millsap was here. U like the first 9. Big question marks after that


The first thing that jumps out is the team is incredibly versatile. Of the 15 signed players, 11 players are proven and capable of playing multiple positions. Only Williams-Goss, Oni, Gobert and Bradley appear positionally limited.


Exum isn't proven. Who else is? I count 9. Goss is a combo guard. Oni is a wing who can handle it too, I could actually see Gobert at the 4 guarding the perimeter if he was with someone that could shoot and protect the rim. Bradley played the 4 with Reed last year. Not sure if he can do it in the NBA but he can play offensively on the perimeter


Gobert and Bradley are strictly centers, while Oni showed little versatility offensively beyond his ability to shoot the ball. He may be able to defend both backcourt positions in the NBA but struggled with that during his Summer League appearances.


You saw a different Oni and obviously haven't seen much of Bradley either


Williams-Goss comes in at 6-foot-3 and has a 6-foot-7 wingspan, which should give him the option to play both guard spots. He has a lack of lateral quickness, which may keep him off the floor in general.

The Jazz re-signed Exum to a three-year, $33 million deal just over a year ago and clearly still envision him as Conley's primary backup. Mudiay can help in the regular season, but the Jazz would have gone after a more established point guard if they were looking for a playoff contributor. With the necessary annual caveat of if he can stay healthy, the Jazz are relying on Exum to be their sixth man this season.

On most nights, Ingles will draw the opposition's best wing scorer. He's proven capable of slowing down stars before, but a successful playoff run will see matchups against at least a couple of the seemingly dozens All-Star-caliber wings now in the West.

The first thing is that I have the Jazz losing just two home games all season. That is not to say that I really think the Jazz are going to go 39-2 at home this year. That is extremely unrealistic. For a majority of the teams though, especially in the loaded West, I have the odds of winning at 50 percent. The only teams that come in with a win probability at 75 percent or higher are the Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Clippers, and the Milwaukee Bucks. Against most of the teams in the West though, the Jazz should be able to split those series. With that being the case, I simply counted a win for the home team in those scenarios. There will likely be some variance to that, but it should balance out by the Jazz also winning some games on the road that I have as losses.
