In 2009, a few tennis players were asked about their favorite movie... and literally 5 of like 10 people selected Gladiator.

It was a bit of a :wtf:
After seing this movie, I understand. Gotta be some brutally motivating stuff for an athlete.
Any similar reccomendables?

Troy is underrated. Not nearly as good as Gladiator, but at the least it is of the same ilk.
Forrest Gump is the GOAT movie... funnily enough, he's almost nothing like the actual Forrest Gump in the novel.

Loved Troy as a kid.
Rewatched it last year, dear god the whole movie is so corny and cringe. The over the top dramatic music playing everytime Achilles opens his mouth :lol :lol

I watched it as a kid and liked it but i think it already felt kinda artificial/over-top to me, so Im pretty sure thats what would happen if I watch it again lol.

I watched it when I was significantly younger, yeah, I saw a clip on YouTube after posting about it here and I thought the same thing, haha.

Definitely.
While Brad Pitt is a great actor he just could not sell it as Achilles. Plus the whole movie was cringe.
Actor playing Agamemnon was actually the best one in there.
Eric Bana was also cringe with horrible dialogue.
Orlando Bloom was cringe AF
Biggest disappointment was Achilles not fighting in the big battle. I know he conquered the beach but it would have been great to see him what he does when in a giant 100k soldier battle.
+ on a plus side, Achilles v Hector was one of the sickest 1 v 1 duels on TV
The fukkin music was so bad too. I bet the movie was entertaining when it firt came out but it has really not aged well.

Ya I just watched a couple of clips on YT, and while Brad's physique is perfect and he looks damn good, his acting is.... pretty subpar. He's not fitting some of the dialogue.

A bit of trivia: The role was offered to Mel Gibson but he turned it down to do The Patriot instead.

lol no. Brad Pitt is good in specific roles that fit him, but he's not capable of completely losing himself in a role. You always see Brad Pitt playing as so and so. He's a more what I'd call a movie star than an actual actor.

Gladiator is a great hype movie. One of those movies that everything fits, the score is awesome, the acting as well, hateable villain.
Also, Brad Pitt is so overrated. Troy was nowhere near the quality Gladiator was.

I actually watched The Last Samurai shortly after this, paused it after 30 minutes or so, still haven't continued.. Looked pretty boring and thin to me. Unless it takes off out of nowhere, not sure why it has the ratings it does.
