kawhi was playing with parker, manu and duncan during his first ring
kawhi then proceeded beat a team that had the best player out for the whole series except for 12 minutes gametime
I'd say he's more lucky than good. he's still good.

Teams were less talented then. Maybe more talented than their numbers considering the defenses played then relative to today....but still less talented because the modern style CBA was new, salary caps were smaller, and the teaming up had not really began.
That was around the time having just one other star to play with was really rare. A lot of players were bitter over Kobe having had Shaq so long. Ray is talking about a time where the only people who had high end #2s had Glenn Robinson, Finley, Peja and Antione Walker. Walker was the highest scoring #2 in the league....other than the Shaq/Kobe duo.
The early 2000s Lakers had that advantage over everyone. Everyones elses duo would be a star and a really good player. Or just two low end stars. Shaq/Kobe had eachother.
Oddly the closest anyone came to having 3 legit stars? Maybe Ray on the Bucks who had himself, Glenn, and Cassell....them and the Mavs.
But none of those teams had anyone called a superstar other than their #1. Nash wasnt considered great till the rule changes opened up the game.
Tmac....Ray....AI...Vince...Stackhouse..Pierce...a ll of them were jealous of Shaq. Ray made a big deal of it when Shaq was gone and the Lakers won 35-42 games for 3 years and missed/did nothing in the playoffs like all the others used to do on their own.
They had a little beef that isnt talked about often. One of the first over used gifs on here was Kobe blocking Ray in what I think was a preseason game.

The Kings were absolutely STACKED in the early 2000's.
Mike Bibby, Peja, Webber, Divac, Christie starting with Hedo, Bobby and Jim Jackson off the bench.
Going up against the dominant Shaq and Kobe, but that's it as far as big names. The 3rd best player on the team was Derek Fisher. I like Fish, but lets not act like there weren't any other teams that had multiple stars on them.

The Kings were garbage, and I watched every second of that series. Bibby and Christie?:oldlol:
The Lakera won because of the biggest referring scandal in the history of the sport. And partly because Horry (as usual) came up big when it mattered (game 4, to stop the lakers from going down 3-1).
That was anything but a great team. And the lakers were infinitely more talented.

This place is so toxic when it comes to bashing Lakers. Like I get it, your childhood was ruined with Lakers winning 5 titles during a single decade...has this current decade not made up for it on its own without the toxicity?

Who played better in the 2010 finals? The 2009 finals? Who led them in win shares?
Gasol. Because he was a better player. He wasnt the one who went the bed with 25% in the biggest game of the season.

If you ask me, I'd say Sasha Vujacic was just as important as Pau. Followed by DJ Mbenga.
Kobe comes in around 4th/5th, depending on how much crack Lamar Odom would smoke pregame.

Well yeah. That team has been blessed with so many great players since it's inception that the Laker bashing during a time of their rebuild is to be expected. Peja in 04 was along the lines of a superstar but even then he wasn’t what traditionally would be seen as one. Clearly not anyone to compare to the likes of Kobe.
And Drob?
Impact stats are one thing. Basketball is another.
2000s David was not 90s David. He just wasn’t.

eh lakers had no significant contributors outside shaq/kobe. That's what gives me doubts about that team smashing other all time teams. early 00s isnt a strong team era especially the East(worse than the lebron era) but there are a few deeper teams definitely where if you add up the talent it's comparable. tbf for allen, 01 bucks is not one of them.

That why I just say 2 all-star quality talents and be done with it. Both 04 and 14 team did have all-nba/all-star players on that squad.
