Honestly the word Superstar gets thrown around way too much. In my mind there are usually only 8-10 or so superstars in any given year in the NBA.

A perfect example of a quality All-Star, but not superstar, is Kyrie Irving.

Superstars currently in the NBA in no order.

1. KD
2. Lebron
3. Kawhi
4. Curry
5. Harden
6. Giannis
7. AD
8. Jokic
9. Westbrook

Outside looking in - Embiid.

Nah no way...there are like 30 household name players in the NBA.

That would make guys like Ben Simmons a superstar...LOL.

so... Jeremy Lin?

Is Jeremy Lin is high-profile? Easily recognizable by other people in the world, lets say Egypt? Chances are, probably not.

Don't get me wrong. Jeremy Lin is cool and he won a ring..so props to him, but he is overshadowed by current top players in the league. Curry, KD, Lebron, Uncle Drew, etc.

I don't think there's an exact criteria to it but every allstar is not a superstar. For me specifically though? Elite talent, popularity, recognizable by common folk, has that extra excitement they bring to the table. Literally half the guys people consider superstars aren't quite that in my book. Those guys are just stars. better than most allstars but maybe no one outside of real basketball fans know them. I'd imagine Giannis is a superstar now that he's won MVP and is more known after a season full of sportscenter clips but he wasn't before this season.
