He just turned 22 and has shown a lot leading his team at point to where they got to last year. It's only up from here for him. Unlike other teams who like to develop their young talent only to let them walk it's smart to lock him up now especially when pairing him with Jokic and the fact people aren't going to be lining up to sign in Denver.

They have something good why wouldn't they want to build on and maintain that.

He really didn't and the game logs show that. Lillard twice as many steals per game. More points and assists. Nearly the same rebounds. This all with Lillard playing next to Kanter instead of Nurkic, the teams best screen setter.
