Hoe. Lee. Sh*t. What a joke of an off-season it's been for the Dubs.
Ppl saying NYK has had worst off-season, but I'd argue it's GSW. This has nothing to do w/ their roster, sure, but just reflects on how cringey their F/O is. Retiring a mercenary's # b/c they felt bad he got injured. :facepalm

He got them two championships and two finals mvps.
Guys like Avery Johnson, Divac, Hornecek, etc. have their jersery's retired. Much lesser players.

KD earned the GSW 2 FMVP
Curry has earned GSW 0 FMVP (Not a typo, he is 0 for 5 like Kobe started out 0 for 5 in FMVPs).
Will Curry EVER win 2 FMVP to TIE KD? I highly, highly doubt it
So...Yeah

Except those players were actual franchise pillars.
And enough of this "KD got them 2 titles" BS. They already had titles. Stop acting like GSW wouldn't have won those 2 w/o him and that money spent elsewhere. :facepalm

You might want to look at the list of all the role players that got their jersery's retired.

They still win 2018 but probably not 2017

I don't even get what point you're trying to make now. Do you even know what point you're trying to make?

Cuz they'd lose to a Kawhi-ful Spurs team? I was thinking that. But again, that $27m KD was making would've been used for other quality players. GSW likely still would've been a juggernaut and who knows how the outcome w/ the Spurs would've been.
Hell, if they never got KD and had $30m to spend on depth, maybe they keep up w/ Toronto this year and possibly won the 2019 Finals, too. :confusedshrug:
edit:
But that's not really the point. The point is, should any 3-year mercenary rental have their # retired? Regardless of what they accomplished as individuals.

other way around
they get torched by the '17 cavs
could maybe beat houston, but probably not, no.

That's what I'm saying brody. Warriors still win in 2018 but lose in 2017 without KD

It's really not that weird from what I gathered looking at players who have had their numbers retired.
I thought KD only playing for 3 years and getting his number retired was bizarre, but Houston retired Drexler's number and Miami retired Shaq's number despite them each only playing 4 years for the franchise.
And KD accomplished more than either of those guys did in 4 years. :confusedshrug: Those are just two examples, there's a lot more but I couldn't be bothered looking at the whole list.

Its a pretty obvious "We respect a snakes right to choose" moment to show how player friendly they are. They are playing the long game showing players how understanding they are about it being a choice nobody should be hated on for. This isnt about KD. This is about some big name free agent down the line. They are talking to Giannis....Embiid...Zion. They are the anti Gilbert celebrating their greats and showing respect. They lost some "players franchise" points with the handling of Durants injury and they need those points back.
Its smart big picture wise. Watch.....if Livingston retires the Warriors will make him a well paid assistant coach. Gotta show people you arent Ainge or Gilbert. You take care of people and dont clown them for making business decisions.
They are setting up to be the super team spot for the next generation too. And it costs them NOTHING but a piece of cloth in the rafters of the new arena and a chance to show how appreciative they are and what good sports they must be when some reporter asks them about it.
Fans will laugh. Players will respect it. And they dont care about fans laughing.

Already thought of those. Clyde retired a Rocket and went to HS/college in Houston, a hometown boy. Shaq was a sheriff's deputy in Miami and was traded away when his prime expired.
If not pillars of their franchises, then pillars of their communities. And yeah, one extra year matters.

oops :oldlol:
Im sure kd appreciates it. A jersey retirement is far more useful than bob myers' postgame crocodile tears.

Cant you see them walking Zion through on a visit telling him
"Youll have one up there when you retire. Or hell...when you go back to New Orleans! You will be 29 when this deal runs out. Middle of your prime. We have something special here with Giannis on board....Steph still going strong. Win a ring or two. Get the monkey off your back. We all know youre the one keeping the Pelicans afloat. They will hurt when you leave...but be in a better position for you to return and be the hero if they play their cards right. Remember Lebron in Cleveland? They cant draft their Kyrie with you powering their scrubs to 46 wins ever year. Come win. Come live in California and be on the team of the decade....go home and turn the boos into cheers when youre ready. You never see clips of the Cavs fans booing when hed get the ball in a Heat uniform. But you see "Cleveland! This is for you" all the time right? You can go back any time you want. But why stay in a bad situation when your greatness makes it impossible to draft young lottery picks? Your greatness hinders you there. We are setup for you to exploit it.
And if you feel a need to go back we will still love you here. Homecoming isnt all you thought? Come back and retire with us. Walk right into coaching. Or the front office. Ask Shaun. Hes our assistant GM. 1.6 million a year...he can do it till the day he dies. We know how to reward loyalty.....but we respect your right to choose. No pressure. Just make the best decision for you....and know what youre getting yourself into. Theres a life after basketball you know?"
They are playing chess on the astral plane with all this. Being called cucks on the internet means nothing to them.
They want the players talking about how they treat their guys.
