Westbrook averaged a triple double for 3 consecutive years. MJ could only dream of that

Not really.

Westbrook's raw dime totals are inflated because of his overly centralized way of running offense. Boards, it feels like the guy steals at least 1-2 a game from teammates, but I'd give Westy the slight nod there.

Long story short, even if it were possible to isolate rebounding/passing abilities from the rest of their games, I'd still take MJ over him in at least one of those areas.

Cringe. I remember reading something how Westbrick was top 5 in the players who LEAST contested a 3pt shot. Yes a PG was in the bottom 5 for contesting 3pt shots below many centers. Why? Because he doesn't play any defense and just goes under the basket grabbing easy rebounds while Adams boxes out or doesn't as as there aren't a lot of teams these days that really attack the offensive boards in their gameplan. He basically grabs easy boards that his bigs allow him to take and he's some great rebounder? What a fukking joke.

Without even comparing him to MJ( because nothing concerning him on this board goes anywhere), his rebound numbers are inflated by era( bigs playing further from the basket), and the simple fact that he's gifted 2-3 rebounds a game by his bigs. There's no reason why Steven Adams shouldn't be grabbing 11-12 rebounds a night. I don't think his actual rebounding *ability* is any better than someone like Jason Kidd, who was good for 7-8 boards in his prime without the benefit of spaced out courts or teammates deliberating boxing out for him to grab a few 'cheap' boards.

His assist numbers are inflated by pace and usage. I've seen too many great passers, currently and historically, to place him in that category. Really just in general, in terms of IQ and game management, he's below par. Again, seen too many genuinely great PGs to think otherwise. Hell, his assist numbers career-wise are par with Kidd, and they're light-years apart in terms of passing ability and IQ. In hindsight the Thunder would have been better off putting him at SG( his collegiate position) and pairing him with a more traditional point like a Mike Conley type, but that's neither here nor there at this point.

Yeah, I'm with ya. I never thought Russ was even a top fifteen player at any point in his career. The guy just gives back too much of what he does well, with his mistakes. At this point he is beyond ever correcting his flaws. "Totals" just don't tell the story, especially comparing across eras.

MJ was the league's original trip dub statpadder.

Homie was at the table waiting to check-in asking the statisticians what his numbers were.

Since switching to point guard for the Chicago Bulls, Michael Jordan has become statistic conscious. He has started checking with statisticians to see how close he is to a triple-double. He had a string of seven consecutive triple-doubles broken Friday night.

"The guys at the scorer's desk let me know what I need," Jordan said.

They really do. It has to be the common core educational system. They have no concept of team, roles that people play on teams, circumstances, etc. It

Damn, that's harsh bro :lol Imo he was definitely top 10 from around 2011/2012 through last year, and arguably top 5 from 2014-17

The funny thing is that on the Thunder alone Westbrook had the second lowest percentage of contested rebounds at 16.4%...Dennis Schroder was the only one who had a lower rate @ 8.9%.

https://stats.nba.com/players/rebounding/?Season=2018-19&SeasonType=Regular%20Season&TeamID=1610612760&sort=REB_CONTEST_PCT&dir=1

For reference..among guards Devin Booker actually has a higher contested rebound % at 16.6%:lol

This thread is now obviously about Lebrald and Westbrick, people don't care about Jordan anymore

Westbrook and Lebron both abandon their man on defense all the time to chase easy boards

As far as assists go, Lebron's signature pass is to hold the ball and dump it off to a shooter and hope the shot goes in. Not a very glorious assist

Westbrook makes a lot of high risk passes that lead to layups and dunks

Harden has joined the statpadding elite too. He doesn't guard anyone on defense but is too lazy to chase rebounds half the time

He forces a lot of assists using the Lebald method of holding the ball and dumping it off to a shooter

You just described Magic's game to a T.

Why does he get glorified for it?
