That's been the reason Carmelo has failed the last several seasons. He refuses to take a step back thinking he's better than he actually is.

Melo is a great player, they said.
Melo will age so much better than LeBron, they said.

by now Melo is probably on the brink of a retirement body with the games he missed last year
no way he's remained conditioned

This just shows what kind of player Melo was. Chauncey said Melo would get mad if he scored under 30 points even if it was in a win. He always cared too much about his numbers and being "The Star", that's why he's having such a hard time taking a step back. He needs to realize that he's no longer capable of being a star. No wonder he's no longer in the league.
Caring too much about his points is the single reason why he isn't having the opportunity to score again.

Melo was Glenn Robinson on steroids. Nothing more.

This was said from the outset of his career and it proved to be true. However, GR on steroids was really ****in good for about 12 years...it just ended with a cliff. It sucks he's ending up a joke, just like D. Howard, when he should really get his due credit for being a significant force for many years, personality flaws aside.

Perhaps this mentality was why he's such a great scorer in the first place. Double edged sword.

this is the part where a lesbian says she's bisexual believing it'll give her the same power as a straight girl only it doesn't, because when a lesbian can no longer measure population, she can also no longer spot out the most impactful player, as pain no longer transfers homogeneous property.

Watch that MTV link when Melo was a rookie. I called it from day 1! Melo always has been a me first selfish player, horrible attitude and a horrible teammate.

That's why it hurt him so much when that reported suggested he should take a lesser role and come off the bench. Everybody knew Melo was declining, everybody except him.

The word you're looking for is selfish. And partially delusional.
See ya never Marshmelo
Some people aren’t wired the same. Same reason Melo can’t take a back seat is the same reason Andre Igoudala can’t be the man of a team. Igoudala is comfortable being a role player, one of the guys. Melo isn’t. He’s been the man all his life. Iverson was the same way.

Doesn't surprise me at all that Carmelo was upset with a win but only scoring 21, 22 points, but happy when he scored 30+ in a loss. :facepalm It's bullshit like this while he'll just be another passing footnote in NBA history and not anyone cared about 10 (hell, 5) years from now. Another Adrian Dantley basically.

You're right. But if Melo can't find joy in a win, then he was never really the man.
Yeah, team sports is about a group of people working together in order to play better than the opponent, it's one of the reasons why basketball in particular helps to develop teamwork as the court is relatively small to the number considering there are 10 players there at a time. In order to make an offense work, everyone has to move in relation to one another, and often there won't be a space to score if multiple people aren't moving/performing certain actions at the same time.
Not being able join in on the team work in more than one specific role is a flaw in character, especially considering we're talking about people in their mid thirties who'd have more time to realize this than some young kid.

his game was strickly ISO(.)
slowed the game down to a crawl.
Is your argument that Melo and Iverson couldn't adapt because they had been "the man" all their life?
Yes.
You know what the main problem with this argument is? You were NEVER winning anything with Carmelo as "the man". He just plain never had that kind of impact. He was never once in his entire career ever a top 10 player in the league. He just wasn't capable of having that kind of impact the way he played this game. The fact that he's not capable of being the man on a real championship contender and that he's incapable of taking a step back (and basically offers you NOTHING outside of scoring) makes it impossible to have ever won anything with him, period.
Melo carried a college team to a title. And had one of the best freshman seasons in history. So not sure what the main problem with the argument is. Just because you as a fan don

I don't get the attention Melo receives. He doesn't deserve it. Lillard at this point has accomplished more in the NBA.

But plenty of players have experienced "being the man" and could take a step back when their abilities started to go down with age. Like you said yourself, "Some people aren

Like what? All star appearances? No. All nba teams? No. Scoring leader? No.
Seems like you are hating on Melo with this post.
