View Full Version : What happens to Kobe

Would that mean that Kobe was never skilled and relied on supreme athleticism to compete while players like Cousins and KD have more skill and thus can bounce back from the surgery?

Did they also have career ending knee/shoulder issues?

Yea, that's exactly what it would mean. Kobe was never skilled, brilliant.

Good job, Gus. You obviously took your time to come up with this scenario.

Kobe was in his mid 30's when the Achilles popped. He had been through so many wars in his career at that point. Plus he had other injuries on top of all that to close his career. Isiah was a bit younger when his popped. But he was still in his early 30's. For most small fast guards, that's often the end of their prime anyway. And on top of it, he had been in several major wars as well.

In the case of KD, he's only 30 years old. From there, he hasn't been in as many physical wars as Kobe and Isiah. Plus he and Dirk are the top two shooters EVER at 7'0 tall. So even if KD doesn't regain his athletic ability, he can play more like Dirk did. Plus he could play more as a stretch PF if he had too. He would be among the tallest PF in the league anyway. So i expect KD to pull a Nique type recovery. Lose some athletic ability BUT still bounce back to put up their normal great numbers.

When it comes to Boogie, I'm a bit more concerned due to his weight. But maybe that's why Boogie is dropping some weight. Plus this was his first postseason. He doesn't have the playoff wear and tear. And his game was never predicated on being an elite athlete. And he's as skilled offensively (scoring skillset, passing, handles) as any center ever.

So NOTHING happens to Kobe's legacy in my opinion. He was at a different stage of his career when his Achilles popped. He was in the backend of his prime years AFTER many playoff battles. And he was a 6'6 guard as well. So he had to worry about defending those athletic wing players. KD can transition to a stretch PF in necessary. And Boogie is a center. So u can't compare Kobe's case to those guys.
