And thats before the luxury tax which will push them somewhere into the 160 million range if not more. At one point there was a chance they would have topped 200 million after the repeater penalty but they apparently ducked that.
Sure they will cut 90 million next off season and be about 64-68 million under the cap....
But who is gonna be there to spend it on?
Siakam if the Raptors dont extend him soon(they will)
Draymond
Jaylen Brown(restricted)
Conley(player option)
Ingram(restricted)
Lowry
Hayward
DeMar DeRozan(player option)
Andre Drummond
Otto Porter(player option)
Gallinari
Dragic
Eric Gordon
Vanvleet
Bogdan Bogdanovic
Sabonis(I suspect hes extended first)
Is that something I can interest you in with your two max slots?
2021 is the next big year for free agents:
Giannis Antetokounmpo
LeBron James
Kawhi Leonard
Paul George
Blake Griffin
Bradley Beal
CJ McCollum
Rudy Gobert
Victor Oladipo
Mike Conley
Lamarcus Aldridge
Jrue Holiday
And 3 of them will be old(ish) by then.
What on earth are the cavs gonna do with two max slots? Keep collecting short contract nobodies like the Knicks as they try to rebuild through the draft?

What on earth does every small market team do in the NBA to rebuild?
Try to get lucky in the draft and add FA pieces. That's the only realistic thing that could happen. And that's ultimately what they did to win the chip in 2016. They'll probably after this season use their available cap to absorb bad contracts for more ping pong balls. Gilbert has shown he's willing to spend a bunch of money for extra picks.

Why would Hayward turn down 34m? He's not getting an Al Horford contract after last years performance.

This is the 2nd thread about the Cavs' payroll in 2 days...
Why is ISH so obsessed with the Cavs??
Guess it's funny to kick a franchise when it's down / rebuilding
We went to the finals 4 times and won a freaking chip, don't you guys think it was worth it? :hammerhead:

You think two out of thousands of people noticing that a bad team has the highest payroll of all time qualifies as an obsession?

Surely some contender is going to try to scoop Love for the low.

There's been alot of player stans trying to live vicariously through Cavs fans over the years ever since Kryie won it all for Cleveland despite it being against a shell of a GSW team. They fail to realize that the big contracts are all done after this season. The big contracts are a result of trying to appease the wishes of a 6 time NBA finals loser. Never forget. :applause:

Cavs won't be in a full rebuilding phase until they part ways with J.R., Love and Thompson.

Usually I enjoy reading your ramble threads, but this one is so strange because it's so far off. They have a high payroll...ok.
I'm not exactly sure the point you're trying to make of the Cavs having nearly two max slots of space in a poor free agent class?! So what? They will split it between short term contracts to try to keep themselves respectable and probably save some of it to take on undesirable contracts for picks. It's not like they're attracting a prime free agent anyway. Business as usual. Plus, hell, they've got nothing to lose by trying to max out restricteds Jaylen Brown/Ingram.
You're gonna have to explain yourself more on this one, I'm just not getting it. So they have the highest payroll and then they don't? So...?!?

Is their payroll so high because of obligation to former players?
Love is the only big contract they have.
I don't get it.

Love $29 million
Thompson $18.5 million
Smith $15.6 million
Brandon Knight $15.6 million
Clarkson $13 mllion
Nance Jr. $12.7 million
Henson $8.7 million
Delly $9.6 million
...just those right there put them at like $120 million, that's not including the lower players they have

Bran got his boy Thompson paid and left them in shambles.

I didn't even know they have Knight?

Doesn't even sound like they've made any enquiries.:confusedshrug:
Unless they plan on keeping nance and Clarkson?
I'm sure someone would take the expiring deals of Thompson and Smith. Could get something for love, may aswel move him.
Is the plan going forward to clear cap and pray for a good pick?

TT was good at some point and his salary is comparable to the likes of Kenneth Faried back then.
But yeah, not gonna deny that Lebron was a factor for his buddies' contracts...
