View Full Version : I'm back like Magic in 92' to get a few things off my chest
3ball

.
1) Clutch Sports and their "empowerment" narrative
Clutch Sports has the media calling Lebron's legacy one of "player empowerment", which cunningly hides the common knowledge that he "colluded", "teamed up", ruined real competition", and many other sayings that have been invented due to Lebron's actions..
So don't be fooled .. Player "empowerment" = hurting real competition and shortcuts.. that's lebron's legacy and Adam Silver is realizing this now...
2) The "Finals comp" mind trick
By virtue of winning, nearly all Finals winners of the 00's like Shaq's Lakers, Shaq's Heat, Duncan's Spurs, and the Warriors all faced "weak" Finals comp.. Yet no one got 6 rings or 6 fmvp's.. i.e. if Durant's Warriors 3-peated twice and he won 6 MVP's, he would be goat with MJ and it wouldn't matter that he was facing weak comp or an all-time weak East.
Ultimately, complaining about comp excuses losers for not having a better team that wins.. i.e. why did Lebron's big 3 only win 57 and 51 games in 2016/2017, instead of flirting with 70 like Kawhi and Curry?.. I understand that he won the ring in 16', but if he had a 68-win juggernaut like Kawhi, it wouldn't be labeled an upset - the team also would've been juggernaut-ish heading into 17', regardless of Durant's actions.. But instead, they followed up their 57-win "upset" team with 51 wins and big underdog status again in 17'.
Basically, MJ only had juggernaut, warriors-level teams with the kind of teams that lebron had from 11-18'.. it's on lebron for not fielding those same level teams that could consistently win championships.. ultimately, everyone knows he employs a far different style than the teams that routinely beat him (Spurs/Warriors), so he should be knocked for employing the inferior style and not winning, instead of complaining about "comp"
TLDR: by virtue of winning, Finals winners face "weak" Finals comp and it's on Lebron for failing to field these kind of juggernauts that mostly win in the Finals..
3) The actual "comp"
Lebron played in the super-team era, so he faced 3-star teams with 3-stars, while MJ faced 2-star teams with 2 star teams.. that alone negates the whole "comp" argument... and yes - the KD Warriors had 4 stars, but MJ faced 5 HOF's on the 80's Celtics... There's simply no spot where Lebron is playing better comp that mj didn't face.
People seem to forget that the Bad Boys beat the Celtics/Lakers and were 2-1 in the Finals - they're better than Curry's Warriors, who are 1-2 in the Finals and 8-10 in Finals games without KD.. So MJ has a signature win over the Pistons just like Lebron has over Curry's Warriors.. Lebron also faced KD's Warriors, but they beat Lebron's high seeds by record amount, which is offset by Bird's Celtics beating MJ's 8 seeds by less.. Again, there's no spot where Lebron is playing better comp that mj didn't face... Lebron simply lost to weaker teams that MJ never lost to, like Dwight's Magic, Dirk's Mavs, or the 10' Celtics.. And he fielded much weaker teams in 11', 17', and 14' than MJ did with that much help
Btw, Lebron mostly lost to the Spurs, Warriors, and Mavs - his wins are one-off's - if one-offs catapult a player, then Dirk should be way higher, at least top 15 all-time

There's still some pretty bad misperceptions out there
But the OP shatters the mind tricks and backwards logic that Clutch Sports has out out there, just for the record...
I mean goddamn they got a guy to be ranked #2 all-time who lost 6 times in the championship and isn't a knock-down shooter or elite on the post or off-ball... And he teamed up with stars 3 times... ... :biggums:
Either broussard and his kind are really dumb and gullible, or Clutch Sports is really smart in manipulating them... It's obviously both...

And who was Curry, Duncan or Shaq's best team they faced in the Finals
Btw, did we ever get an answer on when lebron faced an Eastern opponent like the Bad Boys?... He never faced that kind are of talent/skill deficit until he ran into the warriors, where he went 1-3 with his Big 3's, just like MJ did with his Big 1's

Of course he didn’t say he was there for a full season. He said he was there. All he technically got wrong was who we played in the first round.
His implication is that it was an even playing field
It was obviously not
Unlike Lebron, MJ's ability to win wasn't exclusively a function of having sufficient surrounding talent
MJ used teamwork to win as much as supporting talent....... and the 17 games he got after nearly 2 years off with all new teammates (except Scottie) wasn't nearly enough to generate the teamwork he typically used to win championships
So no, Hakeem is wrong.. MJ wasn't there for a full season, or anywhere near what could be considered an even playing field..
Btw, the interchangeable nature of MJ's teammates shows the level of teamwork MJ had.. of course, Phil Jackson was assistant to Doug Collins and saw that the triangle would work for MJ's off-ball game .. whereas no coach would ever think the triangle or a spurs-like system would work for lebron

The true story and reasons that lebron is only 3/9 must exist somewhere
They can't be a secret or mystery
Do you think that 1989 assistant coach Phil Jackson would watch a young lebron and think "yeah, the ball movement triangle could fit Lebron's game and he has the right skills to make it work... If i get a chance to run this ship, i'm instituting that offense"
Because that's what Phil thought about Michael - whereas none of Lebron's coaches thought that about Lebron - blatt tried to force the issue with a system once and got axed
Face it - the Spurs/Warriors/90's bulls = goat basketball...... Lebron can't play this way and mostly loses to this brand.. so not top 2.. top 2 is ridiculous

Lebron's legacy will also one of weaponizing losing and garnering sympathy for his underdog status, instead of getting knocked for not achieving the best teams of his era and favorites/dynasties like his peers..
When Harden loses with cp3, the narrative is that "well, harden's 35/6/9 on 59% ts is nice, but he's just a bum for losing".... Ditto when MJ lost from 86-90'.. or when KD lost with Westbrook or vice versa - these guys "just weren't good enough", whereas Lebron's losses with super-teams are weaponized as carry-jobs with outmatched or underperforming teams and serve to enhance his legacy.... It's a joke
