Mo Williams
Jeff Teague
Kyle Korver(Though I appreciate Kyle...especially the way he was used on the Hawks)
Okur
Jameer Nelson
Chris Kaman
AC Green
Jeff Malone
Rashard Lewis
Chris Gatling
James Donaldson
Dale and Antoinio Davis
Michael Adams
Jerry Stackhouse
Jayson Williams
Carlos Boozer
Wally S
Doc Rivers(though he was better than you think he was)
BJ Armstrong(Also better than you think)
Jamal Magloire
Brook Lopez
Big Z
Sean Elliot
Kevin Duckworth

Not only was doug an elite defender....he could handle the ball, pass, knock down 3s(never shown at modern volume but in 03 he shot 40%), and was a generally great teammate...when not demanding a trade(Raptors). Chris Webber said the Kings window really closed once Doug got traded. And I get it. He was likely that under the radar leader who really held shit together without the public being able to tell. He had more variety to his game than people seem to remember too.....

He loses points for letting his wife check his balls for fullness after hed come home but....nobody checks ALL the boxes. If I need anyone 1-3 defended, if I need an open jumper made, if I need an extra ball handler, a center dunked on, a lockerroom guy or someone punched in the face.....I can call Doug Christie. I value that more than the extra 9 points most of those guys give me when my team is gonna score about the same no matter if they play or not.

By the way....the list was 26 but I cut Millsap to make it a nice round 25. I chose to cut him instead of Boozer because he has range and will play D if needed. And to be clear....I meant building a team to play right now.

I remember him on Sacto. He played good defense on Kobe, at least as well as anyone could defend him.

But I don't know about hitting open jump shots. He was extremely inconsistent. I believe he was shooting bricks towards the end of the Kings-Lakers epic. But he was a solid rotational player. Was he 3 and D? Nah his 3 pointer was hit or miss, but he was a good passer and had nice athleticism to survive in the current NBA.

Would take him to play a role for a team but not to start a franchise. He maybe multi skilled but on most of his teams he was 3rd/4th option then you suddenly make him the lead guy which is a different kind of pressure.

Coincidence or not, Jordan averaged only 22.8 ppg on 41% FG vs the Raptors when Christie was playing. That's '96-'98 Jordan, not Wizards' Jordan. Wizard Jordan also played well below his standards vs Christie's Kings (17.5 ppg, 37% FG). I'm pretty sure nobody managed to hold him as low as Christie's teams.

When he would foul someone he'd always put his hand up in the air.

Anyone have a high quality Youtube vid of some of their best games?

And we all considered them so uptempo because we had gotten used to the Brown/Pop/Riley style slowing things down. Wish we got to see a hem in a league like today or the 80s where if you try to push the tempo the other team wouldn

I agree that Christie was really underrated.
He was the best defender on the Kings team.
Shane Battier and Doug Christie, I would love to have on my team.

Other things....

[QUOTE] Doug and Jackie Christie's relationship stories have become a gossip rag staple and if they're even half true, those two share the weirdest bond this side of Eminem and Kim. Jackie's leash on Doug is notoriously tight with widely reported stories of his not being allowed to make eye contact with other women, answer questions from female reporters, and the requirement that he acknowledge her during games with a hand gesture.

In a concerted effort towards losing all of their friends, the couple remarry every year with a large ceremony complete with guests. In 2012, the pair announced plans to produce an adult film because, you know, there's not enough weird porn on the Internet.

But the cornerstone of their bizarre relationship occurred during an infamous dinner date in '08. Supposedly, Doug began choking on a chicken bone when his wife called out for help. Help arrived in the form of a female physician who was beaten away with Jackie's purse before she could apply first aid. After his near-death experience, Doug was quoted as saying, "[I'm] glad that my wife spared me the indignity of having another woman give me the Heimlich.

You ask Christie to do this and you receive an airball and you deserve that airball for making such a poor selection.

To elaborate on windows opening and closing, when Elliott had his kidney transplant we lost our primary defender on Kobe. That opened the window for the Lakers until Bruce Bowen made the scene.

TBH, my favorite Doug Christie moment was when Brewin from Jugganauts called DJ Stretch Armstrong "lookin like a cracked out Doug Christie" :applause:

Doug's game was meh, albeit team oriented and efficient.

But yes, Doug was a hell of a role player.

Could defend many positions and defend them well.

Good passer and shooter. Great on the fast break.

Consumate team player.

Cause it def wasn't her looks.

But most likely explanation:
Nicca probably cheated a few times early, and she threatened to take half his cake and the kids unless "conditions", and son complied.

Her bullshit was part of why the Mavs cut his ass so quickly. She doesn't allow him to talk to any other females which was an issue b/c the Mavs head of media relations was a woman at the time.

36, 38, 35, and 40% from 3 for 4 years on the King’s I’d call solid. Like I said it wasn’t on modern volume....but he could shoot. These things are hard to compare directly with the change in play style. Lot more wide open now. The 03 Kings scored less than any team did in 2019.
If you watched that series, he was hitting nothing but backboard on wide open 3s towards the end of it. Christie is not a 3 and D guy, but solid piece nonetheless, 4th or 5th option on a team like the Kings. I trusted Bobby Jackson off the bench more than him. Which isn't saying a lot since BJax had a lot of heart.

I loved that Kings team. Shame Peja airballed a corner 3 in game 7 with 30 seconds left. That guy was a choker.

Kblaze8855
07-21-2019, 11:14 AM
Yes I recall that most of the team choked . And no he wasnt a modern 3 and D guy because nobody back then really was. Bowen seems like he would be when he led the NBA in 3 point percentage....but he still only made 100 threes that whole season. Even guys we remember as just standing in a corner shooting didnt really do it that much.

Thats what he would do today though. Be something like a better shooting Iggy of a few years ago I suspect. Not better than prime Iggy....but that kinda player. Backup point/extra ball handler....defend everyone...move the ball. Lead. But make a few more jumpers due to the era.
