Poorest FT shooter last season, by far the majority are big men.

In history, most famous poor FT shooters are bigs (Dwight, Shaq, Big Ben, Wilt, etc)

I was told they shot 80%+ in practice. In games, we are told it's a mental thing.

Does it make sense that all these bigs have mental problems? :confusedshrug:

bending your knees ??

Tim Duncan one of methodical players struggled , and had to remind himself to flex.

It makes sense.

1. All players shoot a higher percentage in practice than they do in game.

2. The pool of big men to choose from in the world is smaller than guards.

3. Longer arms = longer distance that the ball has to travel before release, which complicates things.

4. Stronger.

Big hands are a problem.

Not as much as people make it out to be. There are many people with big hands who can shoot FTs.

It's that before making the NBA, these bigs don't need to learn the fundamentals to dominate. They just need some amount of coordination to compliment their size and that is all they need to dominate at the levels below. Then once they get to the NBA their fundaments just either aren't there or aren't refined enough.

Duncan's a better ft shooter than most big men, though. Makes sense since he'd play away from the basket more than most big men. That turnaround banker often worked well for him.

Most big men don't practice fundamentals 15 feet away from the basket since they play near it, so their free throw shooting is woeful compared to smalls.

Chris Dudley is another notoriously poor shooter.

Skill level...

It wasnt until last few years that half the population above 7ft were in the nba whereas 50% of the population are under 6 feet and no one under 6ft made the nba.

I bet you can do a BBIQ test and the shorter the player, the higher it is (with the exception of ppl like Bron, KD etc)

You are only as good a shooter as you shoot in games.

So they are not skilled enough. If it was that hard, why did Dirk make 90%?
