Define mass shootings and define regularly. I do not believe our government has a legal definition of the term mass shooting. Yes, we have a lot of guns in this country, but we also have a lot of people in this country too.

Looking for data to dispel this notion that the United States is leading the way in senseless murder, I found this chart from a 2016 study. Could not find data from a more recent year, like 2018 for example. And granted, this chart does not include the Las Vegas shooting which happened in 2017.

Also, as a reminder, firearm suicide makes up the majority of both gun deaths and suicides in the United States. 2/3 of all gun deaths in the United States are from suicides.

EDIT: The mental instability of someone who kills themselves and of those who kills others is to me, the common denominator. I think we can tackle this issue on two fronts. We should put a humongous focus on mental health, and we should also make it harder for those with a checkered history in that area to purchase guns. Perhaps a waiting period of several years. Perhaps a registry with local authorities of those who have that checkered history.
