View Full Version : Stats or Rings - how many guys have EITHER argument over Lebron?

Looks like 8 total:

Rings - MJ, Kobe, Magic, Kareem, Duncan, Shaq, Russell

Stats - MJ, Wilt

So #9 or #10 is a completely legitimate ranking for Lebron.. Top 5 is infact not a lock... Not even close..

Stats/Rings is the argument LeBron fans try to pull because they think stats+rings = legacy but it doesn't. Don't fall into their poorly constructed trap.

3ball created the trap. That is why it is so poorly constructed.

LeBron has more/as many rings as his teams best player than the bolded though. If we posting rings with no context, where's Havlicek or Pippen

MJ with the best balance of both as the man on his team = lock

Too easy.

Another one!

Russell still wins, GOAT defender, 11 titles, + two times team leading scorer in the finals = 13
Havlicek is 11 combined.

LeBron has more points, assists, rebounds in the regular season and the playoffs then MJ. Sure you want to use stats? ;)

Russell came into the league playing with the league mvp winner and ROY. He also never had to win 4 series in a year. For 8 titles he only had to win 2 series. From 1984 and onward you had to win 4 series a year for a title. Russell won 25 series for 11 titles, MJ 24 series for 6 titles, so basically the same considering all things.

Basically, 8 guys have a legit argument over lebron... :facepalm

He could easily be ranked #9 and I put bird over him, so #10 at best

Throw in the collusion/"inorganic" style (per GM Griffin and 3ball), and difficulty building around due to his CP3 ball-dominant skillset (only "shooters" play well next to him), and he's easily out of the top 15.

LeBron's one ring vs the 73-9 Warriors is worth more than both Jazz rings + the Dennis Rodman stolen FMVP ring

LeBron getting to the Finals in 07 + 2018 is = to the magic johnson by himself ring

LeBron ring vs 3 future MVPs/ 3 top 30 players all-time is worth more than > The suns ring + Blazer ring

so that still leaves the Spurs ring....which means LeBron has more rings

eat it

Rings? Only 8 dudes? WTF... its far more than that.... you know... Horry... Havlicek... and many other scrubs, they have more than MJ aswell... its afterall only a team accomplishment.... if Lebron had Jordans teams he would end up with far more rings because well... he is better....

Stats? Nobody.... Lebron had better overall stats than MJ and will end up having far more totals of literally every category, MJ was just a scorer and even there Lebron beats MJ, embarrassing... and as far as Wilt goes? lol, really? 60s all time high pace/possession vs white scrubs, really? Lebron would average 60-20-20-10-10 in 60s.

CONCLUSION = still LEBRON = GOAT > JORDAN

Imagine having 6 chips but you're embarrassed to talk about any of them

91 lakers = Worthy hurt, Kareem gone, Magic had AIDS (last year in the league)

92 blazers = 1 star Drexler vs 2 star MJ and Pippen

93 suns = Barkley vs MJ and Pippen

95 = whoops, Shaq waxed that ass

96 Sonics = 6'1 Payton locking down MJ who was outplayed by Shawn Kemp and stole the FMVP from Dennis Rodman

97 Jazz = weakest duo, basically a CP3 Blake Clippers pairing. Lots of regular season wins and nothing to show for

98 Jazz = literal worst #2 option in NBA history (10.7 ppg Hornacek)

TAKE YOUR PICK :lol Which was best :lol

Players with mostly point guard skillsets can't be goat (i.e. Nash, Cp3, lebron, Magic, Westbrook, Oscar, harden, etc)

They mostly turn teammates into play-finishers or spot-up shooters, so they can't elevate players or a team like other player types

The "spot-up shooter" result for teammates doesn't yield the best teams or teamwork and needs extra talent to offset the weaker teamwork and reach a championship level

Otoh, the historical record shows that the off-ball wing skillset results in the most rings (MJ, Bird, Kawhi, Dirk, Kobe, KD, Curry), the best teams, and the most organic teamwork

Which skillset won more:

The ball-dominators Nash/Cp3,/Magic/Lebron/Isiah/Westbrook/Harden

or

the non-ball-dominators MJ/Bird/Kawhi/Kobe/KD/Dirk/Curry

It's not even close

Whats not even close is the team talent discrepancy between those 2 groups. Call it what it is.
