“In this manifesto that we believe is from the shooter … he talks about living out his super soldier fantasy on ‘Call of Duty,’” Patrick said.

“We’ve always had guns. We’ve always had evil. But what’s changed where we see this rash of shooting?” he continued, calling violent video games “the common denominator.”

“I see a video game industry that teaches young people to kill,” he said.

“The idea of these video games, they dehumanize individuals to have a game of shooting individuals and others,” he said in a Fox News interview. “When you look at these photos of how [the El Paso shooting] took place, you can see the actions within video games and others.”

BREAKING UPDATE: Walmart shooting suspect Patrick Crusius, 21, reportedly 'wanted to kill as many Mexicans as possible,' may have written manifesto about 'Hispanic invasion'

Minutes Before El Paso Killing, Hate-Filled Manifesto: It spoke of a “Hispanic invasion of Texas.” It detailed a plan to separate America into territories by race. It warned that white people were being replaced by foreigners.

at it's core foundation, the common denominator is clearly lack of sexual appreciation

President Lyndon B. Johnson once said, "If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you."

No better examples of that than those 2. We have more to fear from Vanilla ISIS than the real ISIS.

Ask Moscow Mitch if Japanese people play video games

The 67.6 million players in Japan will spend $19.2 billion in 2018, which makes it the 3rd largest games market in the world.

Japan is the second largest market for game software, and per capita consumption is the highest in the world. More than 10% of people below 30 years old play video games more than 2 hours per day

Although Japan has one-third the population size of the United States, they have the lowest rate of gun violence in the developed world with a rate of 0.6 compared to 10.5 in the United States... Due to these incredibly strict laws and participation from Japanese there were only six shots fired all throughout Japan in 2015.

Can also throw in China, S Korea, Germany and the UK among the largest video game markets, with USA being number one. Wonder which country stands out on that list when it comes to gun violence/mass shooting rates.

I don’t even blame the illegals. People will do whatever you allow them to do. If you allow people to leave shitty countries for good countries, of course they’re going to do it. obviously. Who wouldn’t? It’s the people who insist on allowing it that are the problem.

If the politicians suddenly decided to allow people to not pay their taxes, millions of people are going to stop paying taxes.

If you live in a shitty country, why wouldn’t you illegally enter a country that everybody knows tolerates illegal entry?

And that's why some posters will dance around this notion that video games lead to mass shootings. Most people here know better, but if you're riding for your side, it means you almost have to go with or ignore whatever they say in 2019... but you certainly can't publicly dispute it. Had the talking point been that spam calls lead to mass shootings, the posts from some of the posters in this thread would virtually be the same.

No, it doesn’t.

I honestly can’t believe we’re even talking about violent video games. It’s an idiotic talking point that was debunked like 20 years ago. Trump and everyone else trying to make this a thing are embarrassing themselves.

Every public person with any common sense should not jump on this stupid bandwagon. Everyone that trashes Trump and Republicans on this one is completely right. It’s indefensible and only makes them look like they’re using this nonsense point to avoid addressing other points. Anyone that thinks they’re going to successfully argue “it’s not about guns, it’s about violent video games” is setting themselves up for failure. Very stupid failure.

Trump briefly mentioned it but the House Minority Leader went into a whole spiel on the matter (The Texas Lt.Governor did as well)

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/kevin-mccarthy-blames-video-games-el-paso-dayton-mass-shootings-1229106

That sorta rhetoric is incredibly stupid in 2019. It's not even an honest discussion, either, as they're just looking to distract and not really talk about the problems (The LT Governor cited El Paso shooter mentioning Call of Duty in his Manifesto, yet ignored what the manifesto was actually about and other more obvious things he cited as ACTUALLY influencing him like anti-immigrant rhetoric espoused by Trump and others)

I will say what Trump said about glorification of violence itself wasn't stupid, but I think if we're being serious about the glorification of violence the finger should be pointed at Movies/TV waaay before Videogames, but its clear he cited videogames to support the earlier positions by his contemporaries and in doing so he deserves the same dismissal as they do

I'm heartened that you haven't jumped on this bandwagon, but unfortunately a number of your compatriots have, man. They've treated this like many of the other irresponsible things he has said: with either enthusiastic or uncomfortable agreement, or with silence and avoidance. The excuse we see is generally, "Well, this is just rhetoric. I'm only concerned about results." :confusedshrug:

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy

"This may be a place that we could find this ahead of time," said McCarthy, who discussed ways to detect future shooters.

"The idea that these video games that dehumanize individuals to have a game of shooting individuals and others — I've always felt that it's a problem for future generations and others," he said. "We've watched from studies, shown before, what it does to individuals, and you look at these photos of how it took place, you can see the actions within video games and others."

Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick

Meanwhile, Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick also blamed video games for the recent mass shootings while appearing on Fox & Friends on Sunday. He urged that the federal government take action against the video game industry, noting that the El Paso shooter’s anti-immigrant manifesto made a brief mention of popular war-based game Call of Duty.

“How long are we going to ignore at the federal level particularly where they can do something about the video game industry,” Patrick said. "In this manifesto that we believe is from the shooter, this manifesto where he talks about living out his super-soldier fantasy on Call of Duty. We know the video game industry is bigger than the movie and music industry combined.”

He added: "Why are we allowing young people or anyone to go to a website to learn and be killed and be praised to put this manifesto out? Why are we allowing — 90 percent of our children is the estimate, between the ages of 12 and 17, watching video games? Again, larger than the music industry and the movie industry combined.”

mass shooting on the other hand, noone is shooting back, you are not in grave danger for at least 4 to 5 minutes.

my conclusion: video games come in handy if you are doing a mass shooting, you got the quick reaction and stuff, quick to shoot people coming around corners and running.........but it will not work against an actual enemy. because then the gamer will be scared shitless, and people are shooting back.

Yeah, ok. I'm not required to go in every bait thread and dispute something. Just like you don't either. (And you don't.)

I just think you really overstate rhetoric - part of the old establishment who cares more about "rhetoric" and "image" than actual government policy and its effects. So please, name someone on ISH that agrees video games cause mass violence. Americans. You made the statement - prove it.

Yep.

I listened to the president's speech on the recent mainstream news events and heard "video games" inserted in what seemed to be otherwise a good speech. I didn't think much of it except "not sure who inserted video games into his speech, but that was dumb." Then of course a mountain is made out of a molehill, distracting from the real issues :lol

But dude - all republicans believe this! Especially on ISH. Your silence on the issue two days prior to this post proves it!

The republican party is just like the bush era!

You are talking about posters. Let me requote you.

I'm assuming this in reference to posters on ISH. Compadres to Numbersix. This is what I was referring to you and you know it. Not random republican officials.

Some Republicans and posters. Six is a Republican. If you're confused, ask... don't assume.

I didn't dispute it? This post below is an obvious repudiation of it.

Again, I'm not speaking solely about the posters on ISH, though some of you do like to dance around the issue as I pointed out and as you are doing now. I made that clear in my previous posts. Two of the most powerful Republicans in the Federal government have referenced video games as a cause of mass shootings. An elected state official from the state where one of the shootings took place has referenced video games as a cause of mass shootings. What kind of "repudiation" is "65+ year old rush limbaugh listeners think this. Again, your characterization of the republican party is stuck in the Bush years"?

Some elected Republicans are still talking about video games in 2019. Where is your actual repudiation? And you're free to deflect with that "baited to dispute" nonsense, but this is your third post in this thread and you still can't bring yourself to explicitly call out what the Republican elected officials I've referenced have said as foolish. You're showing yourself to be the kind of poster I was talking about. Avoid, deflect, dodge... anything to abstain from criticizing the team you're riding for.

I just think you really overstate rhetoric - part of the old establishment who cares more about "rhetoric" and "image" than actual government policy and its effects.

Just like many of our Republican elected officials would say in response. These communities just endured what amounted to domestic terrorist attacks, but you want to pretend that what elected officials say in the aftermath is unimportant? Perhaps you're too obtuse to notice, but you're proving my point:

They've treated this like many of the other irresponsible things he has said: with either enthusiastic or uncomfortable agreement, or with silence and avoidance. The excuse we see is generally, "Well, this is just rhetoric. I'm only concerned about results."

Keep dancing, my friend.

still does not make sense...... sitting in a chair drinking red bull vs. running around with people shooting at you.......these gamers will not remain calm.

mass shooting on the other hand, noone is shooting back, you are not in grave danger for at least 4 to 5 minutes.

my conclusion: video games come in handy if you are doing a mass shooting, you got the quick reaction and stuff, quick to shoot people coming around corners and running.........but it will not work against an actual enemy. because then the gamer will be scared shitless, and people are shooting back.

Keep in mind that warfare is changing. Drone pilots use xbox controllers, and it's almost becoming like a videogame with drone pilots controlling things from 6,000 miles away.

Name a poster that has explicitly come out and supported the idea that video games caused the shootings. Prove your claim. It doesn't matter that you're not only talking about posters - you threw posters in there so obviously you think that there are posters that do. Throwing up two quotes from republicans doesn't really save you here.

I don't expect a reply.

Show me where I said posters on this forum were explicitly supporting the idea that video games cause mass shootings. It seems that you've struggled with reading comprehension this week.

I'll post what I said to make it easy for you.

I'm only concerned about results."

I can't wait to hear this.

You answered your own question in your post. Now you're backtracking by trying to say you never "explicitly" said it. That's bogus.

Now, back up what you have said and name a poster that believes video games caused mass shootings.

Stop making false claims if you can't back them up. I know you want so so so so bad to make it like republicans are all these backwards christian conservatives rednecks but again, that would mean you're stuck in the 2000s.

I know you can do it.

Show me where I said posters believe that video games cause mass shootings. It should be easy. You have all my posts. You can't do it because I didn't say that... and you're well aware of that. But please try, I'm waiting.

Stop making false claims if you can't back them up.

Show me the false claim. You're living out my claim that posters dance around these sorts of stupid assertions; you've been Whip and Nae Naeing for a couple of days now. Still waiting for you to actually address the topic of the thread, but while you're focused on me, I'm going to press you... show me the false claim.

You claimed compatriots to NumberSix have jumped on board. That's a claim that posters on here believe that video games cause shootings. I've said this before. Maybe you missed it?

You're not really one that needs to be appeased to so it makes no sense to constantly refute something to please your concerns. You're not that important.

Lol, wow. I'll go slow. A compatriot is a fellow citizen or national. Six is a Republican... or at least a Conservative. He took a clear stand on the subject, but some of his fellow Republicans/Conservatives have jumped on the "video games lead to mass shootings" bandwagon. I even quoted two elected Republicans right after the statement in that same post. I'll post that section again.

You're not really one that needs to be appeased to so it makes no sense to constantly refute something to please your concerns. You're not that important.

I don't need to be appeased, and I agree... I'm not that important. But this does underscore you abject inability to offer even the faintest hint of criticism of Trump and his administration when it's due. Keep dancing... it's amusing.
